Erica Synths PĒRKONS HD-01

nice! Check my video (scroll up) for an in depth look with a few nice tricks and some quirks that you’ll encounter

All in all it’s a dream to play with. It’s very easy to get completely lost in it.

Do you think going into the future the Perkons has enough sonic depth? The UI is a dream. And I love the sound. But will you “discover” new sounds after 6 months of use? It would be an instant buy if I could load user samples into one of the voices.

If you don’t think of the voices as 1) Kick 2) bass drum 3) snare 4) hi hat, then its pretty versatile in regards to sonic depth

I still find new sound syeah, but of course it’s within a certain sound pallet. But with recording into the sequencer, the LFO and BBD you can get a pretty wide variety out of all the algos. But if someone doesn’t like the core sound they probably won’t find anything useable even after many hours I suspect. It does have a distinct sound. And what @mukade says. If you get away from using it as a simple drum machine it can go places.

Yeah, I was especially blown away with your drones and how they were able to resonate and interact. Felt like having a modular system with a complex oscillator and maybe one other sound source. And that’s it. Maybe the Perkons is more like that.

Yeah definitely. That’s what i’m doing right now with it  Modular sound processor running perkon voices through it. Endless fun and sound design possibilities.

I still haven’t seen any pictures of the insides of the Perkons. I just want to see that board. I know it’s crazy but want to see what I might be paying for if gas wins the day.

I saw a photo and if I remember correctly it is mostly empty space with some SMT components and ICs. Its not like a pulsar-23 in there. But it still sounds good :-).

Incredible machine_

I just wanted to say that here =)
After a month I can confidently confirm that I made the right choice. I spent a year trying to figure out what I should invest in in an Alpha base, Perkons or Techno system (that would completely change my concept) I can’t understand why, but I’m focusing on the kick, punchy sound and lowend. And I get it all. I couldn’t test all this equipment in real life and only asked stupid questions on this forum and tried to understand something by watching demos, which I’m also grateful for.
I think I got everything I wanted and more. Bugy, digital, 4 voices, blue? hell with it I made the choice. It’s crazy. And I deserve everything this machine can do and the most important thing is its sound, character and simplicity. I think it’s a historic moment and sooner or later this machine will be on par with all the iconic drum machines as one of the best in history. Perhaps this is a loud and not authoritative statement, but the guys from ES did a great job, and they did a hell of a job. Alleluia+++

PS
I wish I had read the manual

Amen. This is the most inspiring piece of musical gear I’ve ever had. I can write full tracks just with it, and it has taken me to places I didn’t know existed inside my brain. Absolutely incredible.

How easy is midi out with this?
If I connected it to a tr6s or lxr could I easily flip over to them and have essentially 8 voices?

Small snippet with (imho) the gentler side of perkons. The trippy texture creeping in is voice 4 through my modular (but you also hear the clean sound of voice 4 which does “melody”) and perkons main out is going through a mixer and then send through a bit of reverb. OTO boum on the master to add a hint of saturation and glue.

@romann totally agree :slight_smile:

Is tuning quantised? If so, to what tuning system?

Edit: it seems quantised, but I can’t find out how so.
I think loopop in his review expresses the feature request for there to be an option to choose a scale to quantise to.
I kinda like the idea that this machine wouldn’t succumb to the western harmonic standard. Nonetheless, some kind of tuning system that would be not entirely non-understandable and different than 12et could be interesting. (Maybe that’s already the case, I just haven’t understood the tuning yet)

To me it feels a bit quantised but not to 12 semitones. The melodies i get out of it aren’t perfectly in tune but also not way off. That’s just my perception after a few jams. Maybe people who have it longer than me can say more about it.

My plan with the Perkons was always to pair it up with some effects pedals and i finally found the time to do it. It took me a bit to find out what effects to use on which sounds.
I really wish it had stereo ins and outs and panning. But i’m not complaining at all. Erica Synths did a great job with this thing.

An option to get more stepped there would be fun too.

Did anybody managed to get a clean and deep sounding kick with a short and clicky attack sound out of it? I could use 2 tracks to get there but one track would be better of course.

I can turn up parameter 2 to have a higher and louder attack sound but it’s too long for my liking. Generally i wish the attack times could get a bit shorter. Also for hihats.
But maybe i have to experiment more with it to get some very short clicky sounds out of it.

And btw here’s some distorted acid.

Edit:
I just found the kick with a clicky attack i wanted. It’s channel 3 algo 1 mode 2.

Hey man thanks for all your information and help. I have watched your Perkons video a couple of times, it really is great, giving me super GAS!!! Just one question, how does the master send and return work? Is it the same as the individual channels bypassing the main volume out or can you do that work around you manage with each of the channel outputs by putting the jack in not fully like in your video? Thanks

Love this stuff well done!
