Erica Synths PĒRKONS HD-01

I meant your music too. The stuff you post sounds great.

Whelp, got my perkons delivered last week and it was DOA. So bummed! Won’t power on. The lights along the top dimly light up for a split second when I turn on the power switch then go dark and nothing works. Tried 2nd adapter from zen delay (identical) and get same results. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I had this issue, try a new SD card. No idea why they cheaped out on a $2600 CAD drum machine by using a micro SD + adapter. A quality SD card is like $15.

Yup it’s not your perkons it’s your sd card. Take out the sd card and it will turn on but you will need a new card to save anything. Mine did the same thing when I got it and I was a little freaked out for a minute. Luckily I keep some spare sd cards in the studio.

That’s pretty bad
Mine shipped with a normal sd card. Had one of the earlier units. Strange that they changed to micro.

I had the same problem but after i pulled it out and put it back in again 2 times it worked.

Micro SD + adapter may just be more physically compatible with modern computers, it’s not going to be a “cheaper” choice?

Edit: Adapters not fitting properly is a bit eh of course

Thanks for the replies! New SD card didn’t work, same for removing SD card altogether. Will have to send this one back to dealer I think. :disappointed:

@madetoday
Maybe try a firmware reset.
Can’t hurt at this point.
From Erica Synths

Eject the card from your computer and place it back into the PĒRKONS. Mind the orientation - the golden pin strips should face upwards (you can see a printed icon indicating this on the panel of the synth). Hold all four voice trigger keys simultaneously while powering on the PĒRKONS - you will see the first row of sequencer steps light up - you can release the keys once the steps begin illuminating. Once the entire first row has lit up, the third row will light up, followed by the second and fourth rows. Once the final row has lit up, the PĒRKONS will boot normally - the firmware update has been installed successfully!

I’m having a lot of fun with this beautiful and beastly goddess of thunder.
And i love these knobs!

It’s good to hear someone using this machine in a more subdued manner…

Demonstrating good restraint here. I appreciate the arc of a patient delivery.

Cheers!

Sounds really good man, my fav of the lot too!

Firmware reset didn’t fix the issue. Ugh. Thanks for the tip though!

Guys, can you explain what happens when I touch any parameter with the shifft button held down? Shift + any knobs
Thanks

This affects all 4 voices at the same time

Yup. That’s control all. Like on Elektron digiboxes.
However, here you can actually record that into the sequencer. Which is great fun

Great!

There’s so much talk about bugs here and thought if it’s a bug then, it’s a great bug)))

But this is not a bug, this is a cool feature!

I’m about to bite the bullet on one of these.
Is there anything I should know first?
Tips, tricks, warnings, tidbits?

I initially got rid of my tr8s to buy a RYTM, citing a need for more depth of control with sampling.
For some reason, the RYTM didn’t click with me quickly and I was left without an instant gratification drum machine which brought my jamming to a tapered halt.

Lately, I’ve been looking at getting rid of the RYTM and grabbing another tr8s but something about the Roland workflow continually erks even if I love the tone.
For now, I’ve decided to stick with the RYTM and load up some fun one-shots on the fly while I explore the Persons and use my Octatrack as a foley looper and slicer.

The only other drum machines that had some pull were the Pulsar and LXR-02 but they haven’t made the cut as of yet.

If you are looking for instant gratification, look no further. The sound pallet is pretty broad too, as I’m sure you’ve heard. I imagine this will go well with the RYTM, but it almost sounds like you don’t even need the RYTM if all you are using it for is sampling one-shots (the octatrack can do that just fine too).
