The Elektron sequencer is tough to beat! I like my Erica Synths Black sequencer and think that they should have put a sequencer like that in their Perkons.
A fearsome competitor to be certain.
I’m still tempted by the Perkons if but for that I love how tactile the workflow seems for live use.
Are there any sneaky nested menus that get in the way of smooth playing?
Perkons is great because how you can start with nothing and morph from idea to idea playing it live. Whereas elektron instruments are more balanced towards programming and then manipulating that programmed groove live.
It’s just a very different take on things. I love both. Sound wise also very different and again I love both.
Don’t really get the point of trying to prove one is better than the other.
Understandable. But there are a few ways to break lose of the 16 steps. I use the lfo for this and actually twisting knobs live to keep things alive. That 16 step limitation kind of invites one to do that.
I agree though that the conditional lock implementation is a little odd.
When playingnlive you can time this by adding a trig at bar 4 and a 1/4 condition. But when you restart it will trigger the first time which is in musical theory logic quite odd
If I were more of an improvisational live player, I’m sure I’d like the implementation more. I like to sketch out ideas on sequencers and come back to them later though. Chaining patterns was the best workaround for me, but that workflow is kind of clunky because all my drum patterns are at least 2 bars so I’m constantly chaining patterns.
I haven’t seen much talk about the one function per knob with the PERKONS. I’m someone who’s getting tired of the Elektron’s menu diving, is this something that PERKONS users like about it ? Or is it something that you dislike ?
OK, i dont have anything to proove, nor trying to find what is the best, as you wrote that’s not the point and i already said what makes me love AR.
But i think that you can start with nothing with AR and while playing trying to give form to your pattern.
True and that’s part of the reason why I have tons of modular. That said, I prefer the workflow and easy way to build sequences for easy fast require in sequencers from Elektron and Winter Modular Eloquencer. I get why Erica Synths made the non screen sequencer interface and I’m sure it’s fun but I went with a Rytm. Maybe I pick up a used Perkons in the future if used ones come up later as good deal.
Don’t take it so black and white. What I meant is that the power of elektron instruments lies in how complex you can get with programming.
Of course you can :).
With perkons the focus is just more aimed towards that simply because it’s all right in front of you. One knob per function and 4 lanes of sequencing etc. . Where elektron power lies in its deep sequencer and parameter capabilities. Scenes, performance pads/knobs sequencer modes etc etc etc.
I understand the fact that Perkons is nearer to an instrument as Lyra8 or modular. The thing i love in Perkons is this same approach of direct hands on sound and tracks. Kind of fixed modular in a box.
Just stumbled upon this gold while searching for something else. I was thinking the other day: Not that I could know how “blue balls” feels, but I bet it feels like not cranking up distortion or overdrive to the max.
Not that I could know how “blue balls” feels,
I believe the equivalent is known as “blue walls”
You get the idea.
I believe the equivalent is known as “blue walls”
You get the idea
I think I remember that, we saw it at the airport.
That’s amazing.
Has anyone else noticed that, when there is one voice playing at a different speed than the others, trigs in the other voices are duplicated and slightly displaced? So if I have all tracks at %4 except for track 4 which is going at %2 speed, all the other ones sound like claps.
This is an example of all tracks at the same speed (%2):
Then the hihat track configured at %2 and the others at %4. It’s the same pattern but I doubled the number of trigs for the kick for it to be the same structure:
This also happens when there’s a ratchet configured on one track and there is a trig from a different track in the same step.
Definitely send this to Erica Synths.
Hoping for a new firmware update soon!
Yeah, I guess it’ll be faster. Actually, the last time I submitted a support request for Erica Synths they were extremely fast and helpful, so I’m pretty sure this will be fixed soon.
I’ve had my unit for a week and I’m already flying on this thing. It sounds incredible and it is so easy to program. I’m exploring its quieter range since I’m using it for a project that doesn’t need extremely distorted stuff and it works so well with everything. When it goes through a DBA Rooms pedal it opens up so beautifully. Amazing piece of equipment, I haven’t been so pumped up by anything since I got my Nord Drum 2 but this is another level of usability - so focused, simple and powerful, full of sweet spots. Incredible.
I’ve been enjoying mine since getting it just before Christmas too. My biggest wish is for more detailed modulation division in the sync settings. Why there’s /2, /4, /8 and not 3/5/6 or whatever seems sort of lame. I’d love for that to get updated with firmware eventually
glad to hear that it’s working out so well for you.
Love to hear some examples of the quieter range stuff that you’re referring to!
Would like to hear the quieter range of Sound. I am Not sure if i like this Hard industrial Style . I hear much of digital distortion or something? Like Not Good distortion. But maybe its because of YouTube and the Lack of examples.
