Erica Synths PĒRKONS HD-01

Yeah, I played around with it. Pretty nuts how much he crammed in. I’m probably going to revert to my custom samples after but this was cool and eye opening how solid these still sound even after pitching way down.

For those curious

The Samples:

The Samples together - 24 semi tones:

Conspiracy Theory time:
This is super cool and moderately useful but still kind of a PITA to really pinpoint the start points for this to really feel fluid for chopping a break beat. I mean it works for sure, and there have certainly been worse workflows out there. It’s a welcome idea just like the user samples were a welcome addition.

But if I were putting out some kind of update that had, among other things, something akin to FUNC YES for previewing trigs with parameter locks… and I were to give the update to a friend to fuck around with… Those sample choices and the EP shown with it would have been a natural outcome from exploring that possibility.

You could certainly take the time to make some cool shit without FUNC YES. But my absurd theory is my absurd theory… Just sayin  - you heard it hear folks.

Super cool. Kinda old school sampler approach.

Does give a nice tone!

Been neglecting the Perkons for a bit. Had to take it for a spin.

Another. This one is feeling a little more me.

Nice. Thought you sold it again for some reason

Cool mid section

Nice tempo fuck around also!

I come close to at times but it’s one of those boxes you can just turn on and always be surprised with the outcome.

Clip is just a bit of mucking around. I basically just record some of the better bits and re sample them.

Given that’s the workflow I kind of always arrive at with perkons, it has been temping to build a cheap rig around a DFAM or similar to kind of live tweak for happy accidents.

Still, I’m going to push a but further and try to make some more prepared ideas on the Perkons.

Oh, off topic but I ended up shelving that Perkons expander project for now, in lieu of some other DIY stuff I wrapped up.

Hi Folks!

Can anyone make their Perkons sound as smooth as this?

Cheers :cocktail:

oooh, the stuff that starts coming in towards the end. Killer

There’s obviously some Voice 4 sample use in here, but what are you using for Kick if you don’t mind my asking?

I’ve been struggling to find a good kick on V1 or V2. I usually use 3 or a sample on 4.

Nice 1!

The kick will be voice 2, occasionally V1, but certainly V2 here. Low values on parameters 1 and 2 as they go stupid crazy quickly. There’s a narrow tuning sweet spot I always use. It’s somewhere just left of the middle from memory. I’ve started taking the transient away, so mode 1 probably on this. Tiny bit high passed on the filter.

My Perkons has the SD card problem… Who else had this problem ? It suddenly appear and what ever I do, the Perkons won’t light up (had reformat the sd card, tried an another one, but every time I shut my perkons in with an sd card inserted, it won’t react to anything…). I contacted Erica Synths, they say that I need to contact my retailer to get a new one… I hope they’re gonna fix all this very briefly. Found kinda sus that they still sell those Perkons with the same hardware problem…

Never heard of this or run into it myself. Sucks.

Can you just swap out with retailer like was suggested?

If not just let them know. I’m sure they would find a way to help you out.

I would definitely say no

Possibly, but I keep going here instead

Loud abrasive sound warning. Slamming my mixer with Perkons.

Not really music, more of a sample gathering sesh. Small bits of this, filtered down could be usable.

To be fair, that’s a bit more like it!

:watch: :stopwatch: :timer_clock: :alarm_clock:

A long tease indeed :innocent:

Welp, they did release a new drum kit, so there’s that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Meanwhile, someone with an LLM… :smirk:

This is popping up on most major devices and the conversations that surround them.

To me it’s different than traditional hacking efforts with have been historically done by very passionate and knowledgeable folks with a lot of great ideas about what they wanted to change about a device, informed by time, experience and pushing against the limits before learning where they wanted to break them.

The flood gates are open and I think it’s more important than ever to ask why you even chose a box like Perkons in the first place. Or any hardware with a specific workflow.

It’s the groovebox of Theseus. (Ship of Theseus if you don’t know.) I’ve made the comparison before. But how many additional features of the week do you tack onto a device before it’s no longer the thing you thought you wanted in the first place.

I say this as a dude who, but for extraneous work travel commitments, would be chipping away full force at a midi based hardware Perkons expander unit I was planning.

I’m very pro DIY but I also want to stop and question the reason we even gravitate towards certain developers and follow their visions through specific products, warts and all.

Honestly, I don’t need anything from Perkons. No updates, no expanders. The two I have have been more than enough for me for a long time. I like them exactly as they are_

I’m with you on that. It’s the device that keeps on giving with its UI simplicity and bombastic ease of use for a drum machine. The happy accident factor is like a dumptruck unloading every time I play on it.

All that said, I did wind up pairing it a TR-1000 to act as my anchor/brain/additional drums. So it’s like having a mental patient and doctor in the same room cooking up insane music.

That is a very fitting analogy! :joy:
