Aha, so my own insta ignorance
can’t wait
Me neither. Long overdue!
they mentioned in a support email a while back, that they were going to be improving the drum trigger options with velocity sensitivity in a future update. I’m hoping that they might unlock the ability to load whichever algorithms to whatever channel you want. I’d love to be able to use 2 karplus channels plus a resonant drum all at the same time for example without relying on sound locks, to do things like chords
I wouldn’t dare troll over this delicate issue
Now I wish I didn’t know about it … stuck in the purgatory of when and what it’s going to be.
so if you already own a Rytm and modular drums, would you still buy a new Perkons or the new Jomox Alphabase MK2 in the future? I plan to sell off some gear and love drum machines. Also I still want an ARP 2600 and Prophet one day. I have little desire to buy endless amounts of eurorack stuff anymore.
I’d probably sell some stuff and keep it simple. In fact I’d sell about everything and roll with Perkons and maybe a box for percussion and be set. The Perkons is the best as long as you have a live performance style recording workflow. Which is really a great way to work and maximizes the power of the machine.
I concur. Perkons plus an additional druk unit is really enough to play a gig with and record tracks with it you want something minimal.
The Perkons inhabits a weird space, I’m reluctant to even call it a drum machine even though that’s what it’s supposed to be.
You can stop your pattern, but it still breathes, you can manipulate its existence post facto, turning it into a drone machine.
I hesitate to even call it an instrument, because an instrument requires somebody to play it, the Perkons sometimes plays itself in unrepeatable unexpected ways.
Aside from the OT, it’s my most unsellable.
What is a “druk unit”?
Pills
Oh and drum machine rather
I thought it might be a new secret aphex twin machine you’re about to review soon.
I’m waiting for my Perkons to arrive tomorrow, but was wondering if they could add additional MIDI Tracks (in the future). I’ll pair it with a Pulsar, but was thinking how nice it would be to be able to sequence it with the Perkons.
This new update thats coming sounds interesting…
Hi,
I just received my Perkons, and encounter an annoying issue with per step values, not sure if it’s intended.
The problem is that “locked” parameters (to speak with an Elektron terminology) are locked for the duration of one step, but not until the next trig like in Elektron sequencer.
I really hope I’m missing something, because I’m afraid I can’t deal with it. Am I ?
EDIT : found a workaround, by holding the consecutive steps whil adjusting the value. That makes “trigless locks” on other steps. But still much prefer the Elektron way, it’s faster and more effecient, especially for a drum machine.
That is a quirk of the sequencer. It will always revert to the default sound you have chosen after the locked-step. Restrictive in some ways but there’s potential to be had in others.
Try locking in a trigless silence after that step (0 on the gain knob). That way you can open the decay without a jarring sound change after the step. Lot’s of things you can do there, but trigless locks are important all over the device. You hold the step down to lock in a trigless step, so you don’t punch in a trig.
But yes, that’s the way it is on this sequencer. Not like Elektron in many ways.
It’s mostly annoying when tuning pitched voices. The Elektron is way faster and cleaner, especially in a live/improv situation. That’s why I bought the Perkons in the first place. It feels not as straightforward for live as I expected.
Seems like pitched stuff will get a workflow update in the next firmware. I haven’t really used it for that sort of things yet to me it seems more natural to record melodic stuff with an external keyboard or something currently
Also, how do you change patterns seamlessly when they are not 16 step long ?
Is there something like a “master length” ?
EDIT : sorry it’s in the manual page 16, hold shift+last.
I just set mine up with the master and master send out. I run the send and master out to the 16 rig and use aux to control stereo out from the 16rig to a microcosm and then stereo back into the 16rig. I was surprised to learn that in running it this way I still have access to the BBD as well. Also, this configuration allows for the fx send from each channel.
