Enjoy Electronics The Godfather module

Just had the chance to check:

  • MIDI CC Control works flawlessly and very smoothly!
  • MIDI sync works well if you just want to sync the GF delay lines to an external MIDI clock! See my last post for clarification on my originally intended use case (GF as MIDI to CV CLOCK converter) which isn’t yet working, but enjoy electronics will look into it too.

I’m sorry for my misconception about what midi sync probably means to most people…

Genuinely, thank you for checking this and posting here. This puts it back on my potential buy list.

Glad I could help and clarify my own misconception

Yeah, for what the godfather is at its core - a 4 channel mixer and multi fx unit - it’s a great piece of gear really!
While updates came quickly at first, advancements slowed down over the last year. I also see that enjoy electronics is releasing another (promising looking) piece of gear. But I’m still hopeful to see more and more improvements coming for GF. They promised a variety of saturation and reverb types for instance. And I’m still hopeful it can someday fulfil my MIDI sync use case.

I was about to sell mine though as to afford a Solar 42f which I already placed an order on. Had the Godfather put up on my local classifieds. But than had to take it down again after realising what a great match GF + Solar 42 would be. Solar drones into one stereo pair of GF, VCO A/B into another channel. And than possibly DFAM into the fourth channel. Independent filter, delays and reverb (send) per channel. Oh boy!

So here I am, keeping GF after all

Hi all, I’m sending MIDI clock out from my Octatrack MKII into a Vermona Perfourmer, thru to a Macrocosm, then thru to the Godfather via its MIDI to minijack adaptor. The GF immediately recognizes the signal and switches the screen indicator BPM to SYNC.

However, I get a glitchy clicky sound that interrupts the audio when it’s plugged in. I’ve tried other MIDI cables, but same issue. If I unplug the MIDI cable from the GF, the sound is clean. Anyone else experienced a weird clicking/interruption when using the MIDI in on the Godfather? Could the midi in port be faulty?

Ordered a Godfather. Was trying to understand from the manual. Can you input 4 mono instruments and have a stereo out of all of them combined (with stereo fx ofc). Didn’t quite understand if I could just do stereo out of input 1-2 or the summing of all 4.

This would be great as a summing mixer of mono instruments going into one of the stereo ins of Model 1 since it doesn’t support mono inputs.

Only clocked GF from external MIDI (digitakt) once for testing and didn’t experience clicks.

Sure, at its core, Godfather is a 4 input / stereo output mixer with built in fx.
U can either sum up to 4 mono signals or use input channels 1+2 as a stereo pair and input channels 3+4 as mono ins. All inputs go to the outputs 1/2 as a stereo sum.

So to end all discussions is this GF good for midi now? ANd is there a chance the thing will be able to do other FX for instance granular ? then i’m in

I guess it’s good for midi but the question is a little unspecific.
What makes a hardware fx unit good for midi to you?

As of other fx:
Enjoy electronics once stated that there will be different reverb algorithms in future firmwares. Maybe different delays too, who knows? But I’m pretty sure we won’t see granular processing on it.

Either way, for what it is, it’s a great machine.
I love how it transforms my moog sound studio into an integrated machinery.

Update on the midi sync issues discussed earlier:
Godfather is now capable of both syncing its own delays as well as other eurorack gear to an external midi clock!
For the latter you need the current beta fw 1.76b (see link below) and you need to go to the SYNC menu and set MIDI-GATE PASS to YES. This way, the Gate Out Clock will be perfectly synchronised to MIDI Clock IN.

This finally makes the GF a definite keeper to me as it now also functions as a midi to cv clock converter which is essential for both my Moog Sound Studio and my very freshly arrived Solar 42f.

1.78 seems to have more fixes for MIDI sync, along with some new features:

General

Saturator Selection

  • Added the ability to independently choose Hard, Tape, and Fold saturators for each channel.

Catch On/Off for Presets

  • Introduced the ability to enable or disable the Catch function when recalling presets:
    • Setting → CATCH
    • OFF: The parameter immediately jumps to the new value when turning the knob.
    • ON: The previous value must be matched, as guided by the display, to “catch” the parameter, preventing sound jumps when adjusting.

Potentiometer Value Display

  • Setting → V-DISP: It is now possible to activate the numerical display of effect potentiometer values during rotation, providing immediate and precise feedback.

LFO on PAN

  • Added the ability to assign LFO control to the PAN parameter for dynamic and creative modulations.

Expanded Presets

  • Increased the number of available presets from 10 to 20.

Channel Linking Expansion

  • In addition to the existing ability to link channels 1 and 2, it is now possible to link channels 3 and 4.

MIDI

Send MIDI Parameters in Bypass

  • In Bypass mode, all MIDI potentiometer values are transmitted:
    • Useful for saving presets in a DAW or copying parameters between two The GodFather units.

Gate Out Synced with MIDI IN

  • New option to configure Gate Out in direct conversion mode for MIDI IN:
    • SINC
    • MIDI-GATE PASS = YES: The Gate Out Clock will be perfectly synchronized and in phase with MIDI Clock IN. When MIDI Clock IN stops, Gate Out ceases to emit clock signals.
    • MIDI-GATE PASS = NO: The Gate Out generates a clock signal based on the BPM setting.

Improved MIDI Sync Precision

  • Enhanced precision and speed of MIDI synchronization for smoother performance.

DPD Filter on MIDI

  • It is now possible to adjust the MIDI filter.

MIDI Snapshot

  • When active, this feature sends all CC parameters via MIDI whenever the device enters bypass mode. Useful for saving presets in a DAW or copying parameters between two The GodFather units.

MIDI THRU

  • When active, all incoming MIDI CC messages are forwarded to the output.

Changes from 1.77

  • Fixed a bug that recalled certain parameters on channels 3 and 4 upon startup, under specific conditions.
  • Fixed bug that turned on MIDI LED even when only receiving clock signals.
  • Added possibility to synchronize with 1ppqn gate signal on gate 1.

Nice to see updates coming to Godfather. The perfect match with a Vermona Perfourmer for example.

2.01 is just out with updated UI among a bunch of other updates, haven’t had time to play with it yet but the new UI looks great:

Changelog GF 2.01

User Interface

Completely redesigned interface. All screens, menus, and graphic architecture have been rebuilt for an even more intuitive user experience.

CV System

Completely redesigned CV architecture.

  • Expanded number of available destinations, with the ability to modulate all LFO parameters via CV
  • New CV/LFO coexistence management: replaced the “threshold” behavior that required the CV to exceed the LFO value to be perceived, now making even small CV modulations effective

LFO System

Completely redesigned LFO architecture.

Sync

Improved timing management. Added support for 1 PPQN.

Audio Engine

Audio engine improvements: optimized parameter adjustment system and memory management for smoother audio processing.

where did you end up on this M0ld?

and @SirAdrianFish what are your thoughts on the Godfather today?

Never bought it. Still want it but time and space constraints made it tough to justify.

To be fair, in the last year I have only unboxed it, to update it. Had a go at it, waited for the click to happen between the Godfather and me, and then put it in the box again.

The new Update looks promising though, so I will have another go at it, once updated. I very much like the idea and the concept of the module, but never realy found a way to use it in a productive way.

I just updated the Firmware to Version 2.01. This time without having any problems installing from Windows :upside_down_face:.

By the way, the Manual to download refers to Version 1.77 a (July 2025).

I just saw, that the Godfather sells for € 976,65 in their Online-Shop. Rather ambitious in my opinion, but if it sells for that price, why not…

has the midi sync issue been resolved with 2.01?

Midi Sync works for quiet some time now!

I didn’t install the latest fw due to

  • lack of time
  • lack of actual improvements for me.
