Good evening
Very happy with the sample Management , thanks for that .
I tried to copy and Paste patterns from a Projekt to a Projekt as it was before on OG digitakt . Is that possible on the New Version ?
I didnt got it to work .
You can do it maunal on the Device with saving a Kit and so on ,but thats not that comfortable.
Thanks

You can move patterns from one project to another with elk-herd, but you don’t do it with copy/paste.

Instead, you use the Import commands.

Let’s say you have two projects on the Digitakt, one called Ideas and one called Live Set. And what you want to do copy a few patterns from Ideas into Live Set

  1. On the Digitakt, Load Project Ideas so it is the active project.
  2. In elk-herd, Fetch Project to bring it to your computer, and then Save File to save it into a file on your computer.
  3. On the Digitakt, Load Project Live Set so it is the active project.
  4. In elk-herd, Fetch Project to bring it to your computer.
  5. Use Import File, and open the file you saved in step 2. This will show you the Ideas project
  6. Select the patterns you want to import into Live Set, and then click Import in the upper right.
  7. Now use Send Project to send the updated Live Set back to your Digitakt
  8. On the Digitakt, test to make sure the project is now how you like it, then Save Project to the +Drive.

That all reads much more complicated that it is when you do it…

Remember that if you’re trying to do this with a Digitakt II, you need to be using the beta version announced a few messages back.

Has elektron contacted u already and asked you to teach them how to do it?

Surely you jest…

Seriously, I’m not sure what you mean… Importing items from one project into another isn’t that trivial of a task, and the user interface for doing so could be rather difficult on a small screen of a Digitakt. So, I can understand why Elektron doesn’t build this ability into their instruments. But I’m certain they know how to do it. (Well, and my code is all open source, anyway!)

My relationship with Elektron is excellent and I’m communication with them all the time now.

Ah cool! Na i meant that maybe elektron can adapt your god-send life-changer software into their software. Because project/pattern managment is non-existent from their side, and with your code maybe they can finally learn how to do it and provide us with an official solution.
But on the other hand… Your tool does the trick already perfectly! So only thing is that with an update on the digi there is always hoping&waiting that you’ll update too, so there may be a point for an official version…

Anyway, they should pay you😉

Stupid question, but all i see is Mac OS and Linux, does it work on Windows?
(new guy here)

Hi again
Yes I done all the Steps but in my case sonething is going wrong on my Digitakt 2
When I select the Patterns which want to Import I cant Click the red Import Button . I just can Click send to Projekt were I want them . But they Not Imported.
Also when I try to Fetch the Projekt were I want to Import the Saved file got an error Message that not all patterns are loaded. So I have to reboot my pc.
Then I can fetch the Projekt but the whole Prozess before was interrupted…

Best regards

may I ask if this also works for Digitone?

It will work with any WebMIDI enabled browser on Windows. Chrome, Edge, FireFox, & Opera should all work… with the caveat that I haven’t tried them on Windows and sometimes WebMIDI browsers work well on one platform but not on another.

Great, thanks. Will test it once i am at home

It doesn’t work for Digitone. I’m assuming you are after the project management features working with patterns and the preset pool.

Turns out it wouldn’t be too hard for me to support the Digitone II - and perhaps the Digitone I (with some conversation with Elektron)… But I have neither device, so I can’t really develop for it at this time.

Oh! A bug report!! Please send me privately a screenshot from just before you’d want to click Import. I want to see the state of the import screen and see why it isn’t letting you click it.

Yeah - I should probably disable the commands on the side while the import screen is up…

I think you just made hundreds of people ultra happy with your answer! Because … you know why … preparing Livesets is absolutely no fun as you know and already fixed for the DT!

I don’t have PayPal …you got any Amazon Wishlists or Gumroad things you sell?

edit: Also … dayum … we should take care of your lack of Digitones! You’ll love it!

Mac OS 13 Ventura & Mac OS 14 Sanoma
both elk-herd and elk-herd beta

I have found a pretty nasty bug in Apple’s CoreMIDI USB implementation that strikes sending larger SysEx messages to the Digitakt.

The bug will manifest during saving a project back to the Digitakt (original or II).
What you’ll see is that some patterns and possible some sounds won’t make to the machine. Nothing will be corrupted, and any patterns or sounds that made it will not be corrupted. Just some might be missing.

Check your DT after you send a project back to the instrument and make sure everything is there. If not:

  1. You can (should) save the project in elk-herd to a file, and this file will be complete.

  2. Just send it again! The bug randomly breaks some messages, but not always the same ones… so sending a few times will usually get everything there.

  3. Please DM me about this with whatever details you have. I want to understand how prevalent this issue is.

Mac OS 15 Sequoia appears to have fixed the issue, so if you can upgrade, here’s your reason.

Older systems: I’ve never seen this before OS 13… but hardly kept extensive tests on each Mac OS release… so if you are running an older Mac OS, please check for this bug and let me know if you see it or not.

THANKS ALL!

Before I open an issue, in Projects view with the DTII, is the name of the current project supposed to be visible?
It looks like it’s opened the project loaded on the DTII, as expected. However, I suppose I thought there would be a list of projects, so I could open a different one.

Can only echo everyone else’s praise - it’s a marvellous tool for DT/DTII owners.
