Elektronauts Hip-Hop Beat Battle #33: Native Tongues, Natural Sounds

The Native Tongues collective includes influential hip-hop groups and artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, Black Sheep, and Monie Love

Your track needs 3 things:

Vocals from the Native Tongues Collective:. You can sample iconic vocals, hooks, verses, or ad-libs from their songs

Samples used by the Native Tongues Collective: Any song that was used for their tracks can be used for yours. Use www.whosampled.com or your own crate digging brain to find the original songs and share to the thread.

Natural Sounds:

Incorporate samples of natural sounds to complement the vocals and create a cohesive theme. You can use sounds like:

  • Birds chirping
  • Flowing water (rivers, streams, ocean waves)
  • Rainfall and thunderstorms
  • Wind blowing through trees
  • Animal sounds (e.g., crickets, frogs, wolves howling, raccoons in your trash bin)
  • Forest ambiance
  • Rustling leaves
  • Rocks, sand etc.

Everyone must post at least one song that was sampled in any song from the discography of the Native Tongues. You cannot use the song you post, you must use 2 songs posted to the thread

Everyone must post at least one “Natural Sound”, can be a YT video, voice memo from phone, field recording etc… Time to get outside! You can’t use the audio you post.

I want to participate but I have no idea what is the Native Tongue Collective and what are the samples they used.

@blaize It’s in the description who the artists are. A Tribe Called Quest and De la Soul are easily the most loved hip hop groups of all time. Q-tip and Prince Paul set the standard on the art of sampling and ushered in the golden age of hip hop.

@blaize I was new to this some months ago, so I can relate.
If you go to whosampled.com and search (right above) f.i. A Tribe Called Quest, you get to this page:
https://www.whosampled.com/A-Tribe-Called-Quest/
There you see many pages of their songs and what songs they sampled for that song. If you click on a song they sampled then you go to a page that shows both songs.

Notice that the song you submit in this battle can’t be used by yourself.
