Elektron Outbox 8

Oh ok, thanks. Can’t see it ever happening.

Really nice, I might get one of these. Finally a good way to use external effects! I mean, yes, if you use Overbridge, it doesn’t matter but without a computer, this wasn’t possible before.

Now that Analog Heat +FX makes much more sense…

I prefer the idea of sticking one of these on the back of my DN2 to route some tracks into the TV whilst others go straight into the interface tbh. One of the issues I have with using the two machines together is fx cohesiveness.

If latency is indeed not an issue, I find this a very elegant solution to retrofit DT2/DN2 with additional outs and 8 seems plenty. It would be great to be able to use it with two machines at a time, but that’s probably quite a stretch. If they ever make a bigger one, they should definitely call it the Elektron OUTHOUSE 16.

Same here, routing for the Digis range without overbridge/laptop is a big deal. Not sure I’d need it with TV as the options are already huge in there and you’ve got 3x stereo pairs which is enough.

Also just realised this would be great even for computer people who want to use an OB box with non-OB devices, the OB latency is a pain.

My question would be, does this mean we can also make ‘submixes’ into Overbridge when this comes out? I know you can just bus things in the DAW but, but I think it’d be great to for instance group Syntakt tracks to 4 stereo pairs and then process those. Panning would need to be pre-output though, which it isn’t the case now… So maybe I’m just making things harder :stuck_out_tongue:

With 8 mono channels input on TV you can basically turn a good amount of external gear into “added tracks/machines” for your Tonverk.

I’ll give you a workflow example:

Let’s say for consistency sake my Tonverk layout is defined like this:

1 - kick
2 - snare
3 - hats
4 - percs
5 - bass
6 - chords
7 - lead
8 - ear candy

Now with an allegedly Inbox8 i can put kick and snare from the Syntakt to track 1 and 2, a 303 on track 5, a Micromonsta2 on chords, an ST analog track on lead and sequence all of them within the TV on their same specific assigned audio track.

And I still have 2 more stereo in/out pair free to eventually set up fx loops, sample and/or mangle external gear or simply replace other native TV tracks with other extetnal stuff.

And if the next pattern calls for a grainer track on the chords, or a Wavetable on lead I can simply put those native TV machines on those tracks and still retain my workflow across pattern/projects.

All of this without an external mixer, turning TV into a proper central brain in charge of both midi and audio duties.

And that’s just one out of many different permutations/use cases you can think of. You can simply take 4 stereo boxes and route them thru the 4 busses ad example, or simply route everything into the mix track or a lot of other “in between” routings.

To me that would be a no brainer really

this is what I’ve been saying! inbox 8 as a concept is just a minimal line mixer.

The only way it makes any sense is if Digitakt or Tonverk are able to select a source from it to sample from or if it lets you route all of its inputs to different fx busses on Tonverk, but even then a much better approach would be to have Tonverk be able to host overbridge and CC multitrack audio and route directly from that, no need for an extra box.

I’m not at all surprised about good latency, the thing that adds latency are all the none audio aspects (usb stack, windows/Mac process handling. Etc)

I’m sad that is doesn’t have ins.
If it could have expanded Tonverks or digitakts inputs that would have been awesome.

Even if it only would add ins to tonverk, if it could at least replace the ins on older devices it would help with managing when moving devices. (Have the ins and outs fixed in the studio, and only needing to connect the box and power making setting up in the studio easier if you often take the boxes with you.

Also: I would love for it to be able to act as a regular audio/CV interface for the draw. Especially with the CV capability.

(I can use the sq1 for that currently, so it’s not like I did not use my digitakt already for sequencing a DC motor via CV. But I think it would add massively to the value if it’s not limited to the elektron boxes)

Given sufficient processing power, a Tonverk Overbridge host mode could be the ideal “Inbox 8”. It’d sort out some of its latency issues, too. Adding a separate Inbox 8 in hardware would add in latency. If we think of it, the Outbox 8 internally is an Overbridge host and it routes the outs to physical outs. The same could be done potentially on the Tonverk but its input from Overbridge devices were to be routed to tracks and buses instead.

i think it could be implemented like on analog 4

same here ,hehe maybe even x2😂

Would this work to create a class compliant soundcard-sort of as well?

As in, connect a DT2 for example to the outbox and outbox to Push3 SA and all 8 channels show up there?

Just to get this on paper, this works with the MK1 boxes as well right!?

we lack any official announce, but any oberbridge enabled device should do the trick for mki

I don’t think so.

Based off my understanding it’s more like you plug this to a DT (or even non elektron devices that could support multi output, say maybe an mpc?) and can route 8 of its outputs independently to whatever via 1/4 jacks.

Say you got an audio interface with multiple inputs plugged to an mpc, you can now multitrack your DT into your mpc, for example

I suspected that…

It would just be awesome to get separate outs into P3SA without going from DT2-Outbox-Soundcard-PS3SA :stuck_out_tongue: (so many cables)

But not really, I’m actually excited about this one for realsies
