Elektron Outbox 8

I was thinking they should have done input first so people could bring more tracks into the TV for processing. But then I realized lots of people have the digi boxes with only stereo outs so makes sense that they would sell more of these to start with.

I played around a little with 8 channels of audio into ARMKii via laptop & OB and I thought it was cool and plan to explore it more. Analog filters, drive, scenes & performances, master verb & delay give you a pretty interesting and hands on 8 track mixer/fx box. If you could do that without involving the computer, even better!

TV seems promising as well since it already has a very mixer-like internal structure with busses.

It depends on the Overbridge user. A lot of people use it mainly for the multitrack audio (it actually is capable of much more than that though, especially for opening external modulation). For the former use case, if it has lower latency it is going to be preferable over Overbridge even for recording to the DAW.

Yeah, that would also be me, for example. Not at all interested in the VST part of Overbridge (so far, but don’t really see that changing). And should have inputs to spare for a single Outbox8.

This is a great solution for those of us who prefer to work at 96k instead of 48k. I recently switched to 96k only, am missing the flexibility of OB, but this is a good partial solution. I don’t really care about having extra inputs, because I have multiple mixers in my system…but I certainly would come up with a use for an Inbox 8!

Oh dear lord, that would be figgin hot.

Everyone, please stop bitching about your individual use cases. The fact that this was even developed, at all, is amazing. And adding functionality to legacy boxes like the DT1/DN1 is A GIFT. We should celebrate it as such.

?? Can you explain?

Breakout box and usb powerstrip were 2 of the most requested ā€œnot strictly musicalā€ things around here for a good while. Kudos to Elektron for make that happen.

I’d love an Inbox 8 for the Tonverk!

I think he’s referring to their non-rubber-coated replacement buttons they’ve been offering to users that have had issues.

You have - say - 3 analog Hardware Synths + maybe another Digital Hardware Synth and you wanna use your Digi-Box or the Tonverk to sequence them. You want to add Drums and what not on your Digi Box or the Tonverk and have it all come together on a single USB-Output to easily record it. Get it already why that would make PERFECT sense?

Oh wow, totally missed that.

Now that’s a company that really hear their customers!
It took a while but they delivered! It’s all little things, but lately Elektron is really killing it, well, more than their usual (already high) standard at least.

Precisely! Just the thought that my DT1 in its old age will get to see another update warms my heart.

But… isn’t that what a standard audio mixer is for? Submix to taste, run that into the Elektron’s audio ins, track through OB… problem solved.

I complained about lack of outputs since machinedrum days. Glad they’re finally thinking about it but if the OT had a dsub on the back for outputs I’d probably still own it.

The outbox would be a must have if I had any elektron boxes.

I would guess so but maybe I am remembering our convo wrong

For a moment I thought it was something akin an bigger Arturia MiniFuse. I would’ve liked that…neat little Elektron box with 4 stereo inputs hooked via USB to Ableton! For me the Outbox 8 has no use, but looking at the comments it’s what a lot of you guys were waiting for

I’m really hoping we get an Inbox for the Tonverk. That would kick so much butt, it’s not even funny.

Besides, I also wish we had an IN/OUT device, OR that these boxes had USB passthrough so you could buy the in and the out and have both if you can afford the expense and the expanse. Having to swap USB cables everytime I want more INs OR more OUTs feels annoying already :frowning:

It is still great to see though, and it looks like we will learn even more soon!

This is rad.
Digitone II’s only limitation IMO was lack of an aux output, now you got four stereo pairs
