Elektron Outbox 8

Boooooo

Edit: maybe not?

the more backwards compatibility means more sales.
theres probably more dt1/dn1 out there than dt2/dn2

theres also heat1, heat 2, heat + FX . … not sure how useful this box would be though.

the actual number isn’t all that important as long as there’s an option to delay the outputs on the unit by the same amount…

Sorry if it’s explained above, but does Outbox allow (Overbridge) input from multiple devices at once? Or is it more like a single-device breakout box?

Either way, I cannot express how happy the Outbox concept makes me. It means I can upgrade my setup in all the ways I’ve wanted while also not changing anything AND keeping my beloved DT out of a landfill. It’s like Christmas in May and new socks feeling and Tinkerbell being clapped back to life all rolled into one.

I was so disappointed when DTII came out and was missing ext outs. It seemed like such an obvious miss. But also sort of relieved, because I’m still perfectly happy with my DTI, and an external out or 2 was the only thing I’d want from a MKII. Other than more storage.

This solves that in the best possible way. So many creative possibilities and ways to finally use my favorite pedals with my DT! It’s really rare to see the fabled Product I Didn’t Know I Needed but this looks like a win for me (way more capability for way less money), a win for Elektron (they finally found something new to sell me), a win for my DT, and best of all a win for the environment. I wish more companies thought like this.

More stuff like this please!

It only has one USB input, so I don’t see how that would be possible.
Edit: see specs

Wow, you are a Digitone Keys 2 beta tester ?

(we call Digitakt DT and Digitone DN around here)

2 devices into a laptop, laptop into Outbox?

I’m curious how it handles the DT & AR’s ext inputs.

Someone here has already asked if it is possible to connect an Overhub for example, but I think there is no answer yet, it would be very interesting like that

The Outbox will only expand the number of outputs so I don’t see how it would change anything for Ext In usage on those?

I talked to Elektron at Superbooth and, like many other apparently, enquired about an Inbox 8 as next device. I get the impression that may happen, fingers crossed!

An Inbox 8 may be used to bring more than 1 stereo / 2 mono devices into Elektrons, which would be especially a game changer for the Tonverk, making it the one that ties it all together, with up to 4 external stereo devices freely configurable across all its mix buses and FX. However if the Inbox 8 can sum multiple inputs it’s also great news for all the other Elektron boxes, including the AH+FX.

Then again, buy yourself a midi to cv module and bob’s your uncle.

Oh no, Bug-Eyed Earl, I meant being able to route external synths into the DT’s Inputs and then mix/send those signals different ways via the Outbox so it could take the place of an additional patchbay.

If the latency is low enough, I can think of a bunch of ways the Outbox could turn any Overbridge box with inputs into a mini patchbay/signal splitter in and of itself.

Yeah, but Digitone Keys is DK, so Digitone Keys 2 would be DK2, or at best DN2K. (Maybe Elektron will build Digitakt Keys as an homage to Perkons Keys?)

Stop with the semantics, I had to make that joke!

Now this is hilarious, well done!

Tell us straight: is this a Linux box with a DAC? If it is, does it have any deep integration with the hardware firmware? Can I, for instance, go into the Digitone’s track settings and configure the output and routing—specifically, bypass or post-effects, or only output routing on global menu?

Why would a box with this functionality need to be running Linux?

From everything I have seen, this would be totally possible.

It was question…

Watch the sonic state video , it answers most questions posted on here

YouTube can also do subtitles into many languages if needed

In the interview he was talking about the configuration setting interface on the machine. That will not be available on the AR/A4 Mk1. But in that case you can still configure it using the web app.
