Electronic live sets

John Lost live at the loft (Montréal, QC)

Hello Elektronauts!

I thought it’d be cool to have a place for musicians using Elektron instruments to post their live sets. There are many intricacies, plus loads of trial and error in assembling a set that is flexible, fun to perform and portable. Here’s a set of techno oriented originals I did this past December in Montréal with DNII, AR, a DJ mixer, midi controller and some fx pedals. Enjoy and please share in kind!

Here is a set set I did last November with just a DT2.

Sounds great!

Love the guy at the end, “all from one little box?” Sweet sub bass finish. What do you do in a longer set when you might want to change patterns or banks?

I have only done sets around 15 - 18 minutes for EMOM’s, not had the opportunity to do anything longer yet.
I used 11 or 12 patterns for that set. I would carry a couple of sounds across each pattern change for continuity to help the flow. Also the same drums for each, although I did adjust settings on them during the set.
Normally I use a few bits of gear, more recently a Push 3 as the centrepiece, but I wanted the challenge of a single box for that night.
I was pleased with the bass at the end, the camera shake was good to see when I watched it back.
I do like the DT2 workflow and it would be easy to build something longer.

Just had a chance to listen to some of your set (unfortunately I don’t have 2 hours at the moment for it all) and will certainly be back to listen to more. :+1:
I have often wondered if I would have the ability to do a long set like that, not sure my brain cells have the stamina nowadays though.

Okay, so you set it up beforehand so that each subsequent pattern had at least a few sounds in common with the previous?

Cool, let me know what you think. The length of the set is really a personal challenge to accomplish the kind of longevity that DJs bring to the dance floor.

The challenge with that amount of material is remembering where each sound sits so that a transition to a new pattern is smooth. I have since reorganised the AR so that it’s ultra consistent on which track each type of sound (bass drum, snare etc) lives in each pattern.

Here’s my live set from FractalFest a few years ago using the Syntakt, Digitone, Digitakt, and iPad.

Yooo! I know you from the dance classes :v:

Intense! You must be running a limiter?

So the iPad is running the elements that feel pre-arranged? Always curious how people go about executing changes in section, breakdowns and so on

Sounds awesome! Feels very live to me. I couldn’t get along with the OT as a mixer because I found reading the input meters was a bit tough. Are you spending a lot of time getting the mixes right in the DT and DN ahead of time?

Oh yeah!? So cool. You were participating? Playing for classes is at the heart of how I got going on making music with drum machines.

Glad you liked it!
I always try to have some sort of cohesiveness on the Digis’ pattern volumes and mixes. This allows me to be sure that when I “blindly” transition between patterns (ie. I don’t use any kind of cue) there won’t be noticeable jumps on the overall volume (and if there’s any, I can fix it by slightly adjusting the level on my DT, as DN goes into its inputs). I usually use my Digis at 12 o’clock, and mix internally at full volume on the mixer page, using the AMP page level for level mixing. Hope I’m explaining myself correctly

Nope! The iPad is simply mixing all the audio and I’m using Mosaic as a pattern changer since Elektron STILL HAS NOT FIXED THE F$%#$%ING PATTERN CHANGE BUG BETWEEN DEVICES!!!

Nope
