Editor for Analog Four

+1
I am just hoping that from here on anyone that makes any inquiry about poly, people do not remark back with “get Ableton Live and Max4L”, as the solution because quite rightly, not everyone even LIKES or USES Ableton Live. There’s many on DAW’s that are much more audio AND midi comprehensive for recording, not so much performing in a DJ fashion, such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper, et al.
Some of the best editors currently being made for deep synths on the CNTLR Platform which allows VST/AU, and most importantly, STANDALONE Operation on PC/MAC/LINUX by this gentleman whom works for Google, doing these comprehensive projects on the side and albeit, these editors are $79. USD with lifetime free updates, which each also offers comprehensive midi and sysex librarians for Classic Waldorf Microwave, XT, Rocket, with Blofeld and Pulse/Pulse2 now in Beta-testing here:
http://www.monstrummedia.com/index.html Perhaps if other’s through this link use the ‘Contact Monstrum Media Link’ [url=“http://www.monstrummedia.com/contact.html”]http://www.monstrummedia.com/contact.html and express our interest in an Elektron Analog Four comprehensive patch librarian, implementation of standalone poly mode he may take up the project with enough interest?!!
**IMO having just those two aforementioned latter features in standalone would be more real world pragmatic because the A4 has such a well laid out interface that replacing it with mouse clicking is akin to making an “editor” for a QWERTY typing keyboard when there’s already all the keys right in front of you.
This also further shines bright illumination on fact there’s percentile of users especially of the A4, that use it or will be using it quite differently by augmenting other gear in our studio playing/recording set-ups, once we get used to the Elektron Way of working, rather than as replacement or as far as utilizing much of the other Elektron boxes.
Something to think about because these kinds of things can create divides amongst a forum community as there at times is an air of those that were early adopters and already know the A4 inside and out and reply to new users “to just get on with it, it’s not that hard”…just saying!

You don’t need Max. Just download Max Runtime .

…hmm, for one, you could always try to do it yourself, and secondly you don’t even need to buy f’n Max, you use the f’n free runtime version ! !

hhhnnnnnnnggghhhh

thanks dr-rain - i was worried id have to buy Max as I only have 20 days left on the evaluation

kyakken - it really has opened up the machine. well done :]

@complex/minimal
Thanks!

One more new patch for m4l called a4pad.

Threre are 4pads.Each pad has 4circles.
You can assign A4 parameter to each circle.(except pad1)
And you can control them by moving pinck circle.
Pad1 controlling note related parameters,
so only one parameter can be assigned.

And each circle can be customized.

changing circle position:
turn on the edit button
click and hold center number of the circle
while keep holding the number move your mouse

changing circle size:
turn on the edit button
alt + click and hold center number of the circle
keep holding and move your mouse

after editing circles, you need to turn off the edit button

This patch needs to run "ableton to a4"patch same as a4 editor for m4l.

i bought the a4 editor for max runtime ( free ) and its amazing ! only 3 or 4 euros and its very very flexible and funny ! i recommend you everybody buy it !

Great patches Hyakken. I really like the way this is heading. The possibilities seem endless. Its a refreshing change to edit the A4 via computer once in a while. + one can sit back in a comfy chair with a cuppa and have everything on a large screen.

I’ve tried to set your patch up but the abletontoa4 patch doesn’t recognise my Analog4 Midi ports.so i can*t get any connection with the M4L patch.
what’s going wrong.?all programs are the newest version.

thx

@dubmo
If you are window user.
Enter MIDI Setup from the file menu and check your MIDI Setup window.
If A4s USB-driver was installed correctly “Elektron Analog Four” should be listed.

If you are using MAC,read through this.
http://www.cycling74.com/docs/max5/vignettes/core/midi_setup_window.html

I’m not very sure about MAC.

And if analog four port is listed.
Close the MIDI Setup and hit the refresh button in “ableton to a4 patch”.
And set the MIDI IN/OUT to elektron analog four.

in my experience with Max/MSP you have to have the USB midi device connected & running before you start Max (or a Max app), that may not be your issue

@hyakken

thx, but problem is, with a connected A4 there is no such entry in the Max Midi Setup.Ableton recognises the a4 without any prob.
will reinstall A4 Midi driver when i get home

@avantronica

thx, but that’s what i’ve done

@dubmo
If you are MAC user.
Check the Audio MIDI Setup, located in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.
I’m not sure about MAC, but according to cycling74’s documentation,
it seems to need extra setup for midi.
http://www.cycling74.com/docs/max5/vignettes/core/midi_setup_window.html

sounds like dubmo is on windows if he needs a driver for A4, using USB audio and midi devices on mac has been completely effortless to me

@dubmo
one more thing
If you use Max Runtime 64bit,
try 32bit version.
I only tested with 32bit.

sorry i didn’t tell that i’m on a win xp machine.
After de/ibstalling the usb driver for the a4 it works!

but 2 things:

  • when the abletontoa4 patch is open, Live won’t use the
    a4’s sync midi port anymore. so no transport no sync.
    It’s diabled like it has a conflict (orange color).

  • when changing tracks 1-4 in the editor it won’t do that on
    the a4. a4 is just displaying tr1 but in the editor i’m working
    on track 2 e.g.

thx so far

@dudmo
I use A4’s USB port for ediotr,
and standard midi port for syncing to ableton live.
In my case I use Yamaha UX16.
If you use other drum machine or synth,
you can plug other device’s midi thru to A4’s midi in.

And about your second issue
A4editor can’t change A4’s track.
So you need to change it manually.
If there is a way to change A4’s track remotely,
I will add that future.

So far if you want to edit track2,
you need to hit the tack2 button in the editor
and also you need to push A4’s Trk2 button

Slightly off topic, but is there a simple way to make this send out random CC’s or NRPNs?

so i can randomise all my other gear?

i just need it to send out random everything

@complex/minimal

Just randomizing 0-127 is simple.
Download this patch.
http://www.mediafire.com/view/wapgqf0cc46ma9g/ccrandomizer.maxpat

First duplicate encircled part(depaends on how many parameters you want to randomize).
Then click lock button and set CC number and save the patch.

brilliant. thanks!

is it easy to change from CCs to NRPNs?
