We’ll be waiting for this one!
fever dream (10th December 2024)
I’ve been experimenting more with song mode on the Digitone 2. Instead of letting a pattern play all 64 steps, I used song mode to stop it at 48 and change to a 16 step “fill” pattern with slightly different patches and FX settings. But not exactly! It only plays that fill pattern for 12 steps, then switches to a 2 step pattern with TONS of delay, then a 2 step pattern with no delay at all, before continuing on to the next normal pattern.
It was a lot more work than just switching patterns manually, since it was very easy to make mistakes while setting up the song, and keeping track of everything was hard. But it was very nice that you could display the pattern name per line in the song mode.
Song mode has been out for years at this point, but it’s only now that I’ve really started giving it a honest try. And I think I’ll be able to do some neat stuff once I get even more comfortable making tracks with song mode in mind!

Quite interesting! The first time through, you seemed a bit inhibited by song mode, and your live improvisations were more tentative. The second time through, you loosened up a bit, but still not to the level you get to when you control the pattern transitions fully. Because I knew the total length of the song, I anticipated the ending, but I wouldn’t have just from what I learned during the performance. I will watch to see how your skill evolves as you gain more comfort with these features, and also look forward to your explorations of the perform kit.
sample challenge with the family (27th December 2024)
My in-law and his family have been doing music challenges together lately, and I was invited to join! I haven’t used my Digitakt 2 in a while, and I thought it’d be a great way to get back into it with this sample challenge. We spun a wheel on who would select what samples, and the final sample pack included some surprise jingle bells
