I haven’t seen any talk about this on here so I decided to start a new topic.
I’m not a dj, but this thing looks pretty cool, and from everything I’ve gathered on their discord, they seem very open to expanding the Zero’s functionality beyond traditional dj gear.
It’s definitely a gamble backing a small startup that doesn’t have a track record for delivering on their promises, but I was really taken by their communication style on discord, so I’m cautiously watching from afar…
My fat, old DJ fingers are wincing in arthritic pain lol. I wish them the best, I think a lot of young, mobile DJs (those with small controllers playing house parties on portable party speakers) might be interested if the price point is right.
Looks fun though for playing around on though few frustrations for djing such as click buttons over pads.
I think where it could shine is if it integrates smoothly with other gear, for example sending sync and clock with small synths such as the Roland s1 or POs. Then you could have tracks synced to portable gear and perform hybrid sets.
I think that’s the draw for me, not trying to emulate a larger more traditional dj controller but make something different that forms a hybrid system or has on board tempo synced looping with modern fx
Jog wheel and clicky cue buttons on a system that size for traditional djing functions is just a novelty
I was imagining incorporating it into something like that- specifically, having the Zero synced to my M8, where I would be able to trigger and fade in the playback of ambient/abstract tracks for seamless transitions. I also imagine the Zero being a pretty versatile looper, either capturing the M8’s output, or from a Lemondrop sequenced by the M8. Having like three small devices running into a Bestie for a battery-powered setup that you could fit into a fanny pack
Not sure if I’m a big fan of this, 32GB internal memory, no midi, and it I dunno I like small portable machines but think for me this a day’s worth of fun and then not sure what I do with it.
I have been burnt before though, so more jaded as I did buy this during the time
Drift DJ confirmed that more midi integration (beyond sync) is coming, but you will need a usb c to midi din cable, which is not as ideal as them including a midi trs port, but it’s something. I think if the internal battery is good enough, then using the usb c port for midi shouldn’t be too much of a problem
I “preordered” one as I’m excited to see what this can do as a sound source more than as a mixer if that makes sense. The scrub in the demo sounded quite clean and if that’s good in the final product this use going to become my scrub machine.
Hi guys,
This seems so interesting but isn’t it kind of overpriced?
Is there something specifically like this?
Seems so fun and an interesting way to learn djing.
I am not asking for a controller but for something standalone.
Thankssss
Nah, not gonna take things so serious, the drift looks simple and fun with his portability and size. The one you suggest is def more professional but different from the drift, thank you anyways
This a good point, however, isn’t there something like that but smaller? Sized similarly to the drift?
Being small I could use it in the little time breaks I have in my day
Besides the other one I linked up in a photo, there doesn’t seem to be. If you really want to DJ you really do need something bigger and with more controls. I like to be proven wrong but it just feels like the only selling factor is the size. You get more traction out of using djay on your phone and a controller I reckon.
