Dreadbox Nyx Reissue

No one else excited about this? I’m the only one? Surely I can’t be the only one.

I wasn’t aware. Any link?

Nice. Love their synths!

I had the Hades and Erebus re-issues - they’re neat form factors but I have to be honest, I felt that the Erebus was a step-backwards from v3 - which had more features, a bigger patchbay and was spaced to be a lot more tactile - it was a real standout synth. I feel that I would think the same about the Nyx.

Only DIY? Do you need soldering skills?

If it’s the same as the Hades and Erebus you just screw the board to the faceplate and put the knobs on.

They’re still around in the 2nd hand market … mine had power issues ( it was out of tune in a weird way ) but they fixed it for free before I sold it.

It’s a nice box and actually affordable. I prefer the new version visually as it doesn’t have hideous wood side panels.

There’s another thread and I’m pumped!!!

Edit: Actually the posts about the reissue are in the original v1 thread.

These are DIY kits that do not need to be soldered. And in the instructions it doesn’t even say you need to calibrate or tune it. I’m excited because this is def on of my favorite synths from one of my favorite synth companies. I just love their oscillators they sound so beefy and good.

ha, i never minded them personally, but I do like the euro format of the re-issues.

With the Erebus though you lose the ‘triple ring’, the blendable filter (hp-lp), the dedicated loopable filter envelope and a whole bunch of patching options.

It looks like there are fewer sacrifices for the Nyx, a slightly simpler reverb and a smaller patchbay.

Does anyone know of any U.S. vendors or is it direct from Dreadbox only?

Yeah, my original broke in a clumsy boozy accident. So looking forwards to this. I notice no reverb modulation on this model though?

I’m glad I came across this post. I’ve wanted the NYX V1 for ages, so have instantly purchased. What a good price!

The reissues (hades, erebus, nyx) are all based on the v1 versions, not their bigger v2 v3 versions. Although they had more options, I personally prefer the smaller footprints. Also many claimed the reverb on the v2 nyx was a step back from the 1st iteration. Some options to change some of the modulation ports through jumpers/dipswitch would have been nice though. Especially depth of the LFO’s or depth of the FX is something that would have made them even better. But even with the limitations I really love my hades and erebus combo, so I didn’t hesitate to order the nyx to add to the goodness. It arrives tomorrow.

Nyx Reissue has arrived.

Ordered middle last week and arrived today to Sweden

I have a Typhon - have used Erebus in the past but this looked so cool in the Nick Batt review of the original.

Plan is to use it with Ableton Move and sample a lot - also connect to Strega and see what happens when Stregas Delay and Nyx Reverb is combined.

A few people have suggested this is a bit more of a “weird noises” synth compared to an Erebus and is not that easy to dial in.

Anyone care to comment?

This is a combo I’m very interested in. Post results and congratulations on your Nyx!

When I had the v1 I mostly used it as a soundscape synth. To be clear, I’ve seen the Nyx described as “Bladerunner in a box” and I don’t disagree. It can be used as a bass and lead synth but it excels at slow burn pulsing. It sounds beautiful and musical vs “weird” imo. It was the only synth I ever had where I was like “oh, that’s what the analog thing is about.” I miss mine a lot and will likely cave on the reissue.

Nyx is FULL of sweet, sweet spots.
Yes, it does weird sounds, also searing leads, massive drones, roaring basses…
The sliders on the v1 are a bit short, and the envelopes are frustratingly not short enough and not long enough. Apparently they have added more life/length to them on this reissue.
I LOVE mine.
