Dreadbox Artemis

I know a couple of dealers who’ll crack that wide open.

I would guess

It’s delisted so that no one can find it yet without being given. Direct link

And that it’s intended for dealers to use for promotional purposes once any embargo is lifted

But that’s just me …

Hopefully they don’t use the same crappy encoder next to the display as with the Typhon.

It also looks like the value of the potis is now displayed on the screen which could be an indicator for a better UX when it comes to recalled preset values. If this is the case I really hope that this change will make it back to the Typhon.

I never change knobs on synths but I made an exception for that one!

Are you talking about the clicking? wasn’t this fixed in a firmware update?

ah hell that sounds good even for a quick simple demo… richness from the stereo oscs is shown off pretty well.

form factor looks great…i’ve been enjoying my Nymphes, thought about trading it up for the Telepathy bundle because that seems pretty similar in scope but with a larger more experimental range of options…this Artemis could be a serious machine in that similar scope, but those controls…damn i love a bunch of sliders for synth control.

i really like that fizz. thats a beautiful texture

i am not a fan of that layout and i cant believe they didnt abandon i after the nymphes. i feel like they would have sold so many of those if people couldnt say “well, it sounds great and is so affordable but that interface is terrible”

does this share nay similarities with the murmux?

what?

mpe, p locking polyend seq, thin soft pads - flush with enclosure? that thing is great

I love dreadbox, but not big on those shared amp/filter envelope controls…it’s easily the thing that bothers me most about the Nymphes, don’t love that they didn’t add / dedicate another four sliders to separate amp/filter envelopes, given the price point.

I also wonder why the big difference in price between the Nymphes and this when the form factor, interface and general architecture seem somewhat similar minus that second VCO and the Sinevibes FX…is that worth 1000€ more? maybe…

Looking forward to more sound demos, but to be honest this has triggered my gas for a Murmux Adept more than for an Artemis.

I really like it and it seems like it might be a solid birthday gift for myself later this month (still considering Telepathy bundle as well.)

Been wanting something that would play well with Typhon, Nymphes, and Medusa.

Price seems reasonable enough to me for what is offered.

Really hoping it transmits CC, Sequencer and Arp data as it would allow me to use Nymphes as a voice expander* and see what I could pull out of that.

Adjusting stereo spread and around Nymphes mono is intriguing.

*Fueled by the mythological relationship of Nymphs and Artemis… almost seems deliberate.

Definitely! I’d say if anything the Nymphes is unreasonably cheap for what it is (6-voice polyphonic analog synth, damn), skewing (my) expectations a bit…but actually 1400€ for a 6-voice, 2-VCO (+ Sub + Noise) and a rad analog filter is pretty good in today’s market.

The Artemis is 15x7 (105 sq/in) compared to 9.5x5.5 (47.5 sq/in) for the Nymphes. Thats over twice the size. Taking away the shifts from the Nymphes, having the screen, better effects, stereo outs. It’s very different.

The pads were way too hard. Like painfully hard. Hated them.

The Medusa has a menu setting where the user can adjust how hard the pads have to be pressed.

Didn’t help. I love the Medusa and will never part with it, but I hoped it would be my master keyboard. It was completely unusable in that role. Even at the highest sensitivity settings, you have to hit the pads really hard, and then the comically short velocity and aftertouch ranges mean that there’s no expression in your playing other than XY.
I understand that it’s unfair to compare it to the much more expensive LinnStrument, or to less expressive pads like Launchpad and Force ones, but even without comparing the Medusa pads to anything, they are so stiff that they defeat the purpose.
I’d love to get a Medusa with better pads of course, even if they didn’t have XY sensitivity. Something half as good as a cheap Launchpad X would already make a world of difference.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if there is a fair bit of difference in “hardness” from model to model. Polyends quality assurance has never been their strength.

It’s possible, I reckon. I’ve never had any of these issues to the level that is being described, even when the setting was on hard.

when do we get to here more demos of artemis?! arghhh waiting….

From the sonicstate website…

Hot tip - we have Yiannis from Dreadbox coming in later this week for a demo, so expect to see and hear more very soon.

I’m not impressed by the choice of Sounds but that Filter, as always, sounds really good. Another thing, Artemis looks gorgeous.
