Drambo (iOS)

i have two regular 9th gen iPads (2021) on iOS 16, and they are totally OK.
but of course it depends on how much stuff your tracks require. more stuff == more CPU load.

(Shameless plug)
I used an 8th gen, 128gb model for music for years before upgrading and it would run a ton of audio apps (including Drambo and AUM) without even getting close to the CPU limit.

It’s currently for sale on here.

Grooverider GR16 is basically an expanded Korg Electribe2 clone. It’s simple, immediate.

Drambo could be described as a modular synth coupled with an Elektron-like sequencer and an Ableton-like clip launcher. There’s a bit of learning curve but not too steep, and it pays early.

So.

I was on the train, and I wanted to sketch a beat. Normally, I open GarageBand and play with the drum kits on my iPhone.

But right as I go to click, I notice Drambo right beside it. So I gave it a go, and boy is it immediate. I like the sequencer.

Plus, I haven’t noticed any latency in my AirPods like I get with GarageBand.

I also have AUM, which I believe you load Drambo into?

Any tips to get started would be great, and really appreciated.

A specific question would be, I found an undo button, but is it only 1 step? Pressing it repeatedly doesn’t seem to go back.

Thank you!

amazing app, totally underrated it seems

if you mean IAA – (it’s deprecated, so) Drambo does not support it and is not going to.
you only can use Drambo as AUv3 in AUM, so you can’t use other AUv3’s inside Drambo in this scenario.

This is what I meant.

Have a great evening everyone. Some Drambo love from me to all:

Drambo project is also available in the YouTube description :facepunch:t3:

Out of interest - are many people using Drambo on their Desktop / MacOS?

i guess not that much, because there’s no Drambo for Intel-based Macs.
i would, but my Mac is old … and i’m not going to upgrade soon because it just works.

Would love to but it’s not supported by my older hardware (2012 MBP). Makes me sad because I don’t want to update it as it was the last of it’s kind in having actual LAN and USB ports built in etc. I guess I’ll have to at some point as it will only run 10.15 OSX but I’m in no rush.

Sorry I should of phrased it “any Silicon users using it on desktop”.

Only reason I ask is that if feels a little clunky as obviously made for iOS (menus etc). It prob deserves its own desktop version at some point.

Will give it another go next time I fire up LIVE

A dedicated hardware box for something like Drambo, with reciprocal dedicated support in the app, would be absolutely killer. Some knobs, some pads, some sliders, some small OLED screens for labels, and some thought around workflow. We can all imagine how to string something hardwareish together, using a launchpad and a faderfox box, but it’s not the same as a thought through tight integration like Push.

It is quite clunky with a mouse/trackpad. And you cannot p-lock anything without a midi controller, as this requires multi-touch.

Also, one of the best things about Drambo is that you can use all the amazing AUv3 audio units on iOS. Very few of those work on the Mac.

I prefer to use Drambo on the iPad, alongside a Mac, using Ableton Link for sync.

a recent live jam using the Faderfox UC4 to drive Drambo.

There have been some great new features added to Drambo in recent months, still need to properly explore a lot of them

I love using Drambo with the Apple pencil. In fact every App with tiny knobs is so much better with the pencil!

Just plug in Drambo over USB cable and use IDAM to connect it to your macOS DAW and send audio and midi over the wire to your desktop VSTs.

You’re a genius when it comes to this stuff! I’m on a 2020 Intel Mac too, so this is great news.

This is all we need

The IDAM route will be perfect…it really allows you to use the best the iPad has to offer with your macOS DAW.
