I can see why you’re weighing that up. It’s common to want variations on hardware themes to give you hands on access to different things. It’s tricky to let go of that because you can see/feel/touch it, and you might want to do that at some point again in the future. Speaking of YouTube, when I’m not watching much gear tube, I barely think about how much stuff I have physically and thinking about it just kinda melts away. No see = no guilt?!
I started the year needing to squirrel my HW away, and I’m not going to lie I’m a lot happier. It might be a coincidence, but it also makes me wonder if the technique described by some folks here about just grabbing 2 pieces from a gear library is a better shout. Like, don’t kick yourself for not using it all because beyond one or two pieces, that’s impossible anyway. But also, either just buy one piece, or have that library sat there ready for you to choose from. I find buying from one maker helps there because the learning curve is shortened.
Interestingly I put some money from sales into physio sessions to sort some issues, and I do not regret that one bit!
Elektrons are maybe the easiest gear to sell. You can backup everything in case you ever want them back, and you will most likely be able to buy them back for the same price you sold them for. Unless there’s a newer version coming out soon, but that’s unlikely with DT, DN, A4 and OT.
Bro, how about not going for what YouTube thinks but ask your heart!? Imagine you’re on Jupiter, there is this room with a desk - what do you see on the desk? There’s just you, about to make a beat, no audience what so ever… what do you see on the desk?
I’m likely gonna also consider selling my MPC One+ too if I can’t finish a song on it by March, only to make my next house move that much easier (if anything). I also kinda feel like selling my guitar or at least donating it but I’m not sure.
If I had to trade in my MPC with anything else, it’ll need to have a more convenient sequencer, maybe an old Elektron device will do because I enjoyed their step sequencers. Otherwise I might go without gear for a while but that should be OK as well, as long as I find a DAW that feels elegant for me to use (right now, I hope Bitwig would be worth it at any cost but the highest, Soundtrap is the only DAW that feels elegant for me to use, but it requires an internet connection to use and a subscription for a full set of tools).
I’m kinda feeling bad I’m struggling to do anything fulfilling with regards to music, but I’m just too stressed with other things right now. I don’t feel like I can do anything for fun with my current life worries, and I guess I will have to get used to artist commissions or royalty-free music online if I want to use others’ music. That I don’t know if I can accept yet.
I’ve started drafting listings for my other synths, I just need to find the time to finish them, pack them and list them.
In 2025 I sold a lot of stuff because of an ssl usb interface and an iPad. Funny I hated touch screens but owning the mpc normalized them. It was like my girlfriend introducing me to my wife lol
You won’t see any hardware doing what I can do on the toilet with Drambo. I couldn’t even recreate this stuff on ableton live. So I sold everything last year.
Sp 404 mk 2 - sold. don’t miss it
Sp 404 sx - sold. I actually miss it occasionally
Analog heat +fx - sold. I don’t know how I feel about it but I got around what I paid for it
Octatrack - sold. Belongs in a museum. Like a medieval knight suit very cool but I don’t want to wear it to work everyday lol
Mpc live og - sold. I probably don’t regret it because the new one came out like a month after I sold it.
I own a Digitakt 2 that is probably going to find a new home sadly even tho in theory it should be perfect to go with Drambo but auto normalization and lack of ways of punching in or any retrospective recording it doesn’t fit like I assumed. If I sell it I’ll use the money to fund the new mpc. Even tho I hate the UI it can multitrack to the iPad like I thought digitakt eventually would🥲
TLDR. I sold everything because Drambo is better but wouldn’t mind a little sampler to be its friend
You’ll make a hell of a beat with 2.5G, at least on the first downbeat of the beat, not sure that you’ll make it to the next upbeat though, so it will be a hell of a one-beat beat.
I invested quite a bit (both time and money) into an iOS workflow last year but Drambo just stumps me every time I open it. In theory I can see how it could be cool but I wish I had someone walking me through making a track in it, so I can see the process from start to finish… Do you have any good resources that helped you out in the beginning? Feel free to DM, so as not to derail the thread.
sold my A4 and AR cause I want to build a live set around my digitone 2 (I love AR workflow but adore FM drums) … feels good to just have one sequencer box on the desk
i had said id never sell them but after seeing how hard it was to sell the DN1 after the DN2 came out and how much better the routing/mixing is getting on new Elektrons I thought now was the right time!
somehow such an obvious thing and yet i’ve never tried it: sequencing the op1 from the ot!
i’ve got a usb-c to midi din cable, so it’s a breeze.
and it feels totally different from playing the op1 on its own, the synths really start to shine (also the midi lfo, p-locks and all that good stuff of course)
ot + op1 is a fucking desert island combo for real
