I think I’ve added this to the OS wish lists before, as I agree, it’s a great feature
Please add this Elektron ![]()
yeah would really really love to see direct jump on the other boxes one day
You might be able to set up pattern changes over midi and switch them mid-way through a loop that way. Also the MD lets you switch patterns in song mode by changing the loop length, maybe the OT does as well?
changing patterns over midi causes the new pattern to start from step1.
that’s not how direct-jump works; direct-jump is a machine funk weapon that somehow only two hardware sequencers have implemented AFAIK (rytm & a4)
that said, on the Octatrack, I think you can get fairly close to mimicking this with the crossfader and different loops on A & B, but I’d vastly prefer real direct jump on my octatrack and digitone
Here’s a fun trick for the DN/DT/ST, discovered my @marccc. Not exactly what you’re looking for, more of a direct jump within a single multi-page pattern.
Changing patterns over midi does start the pattern from the beginning that’s true. However, setting the pattern length in song mode on the MD allows you skip between patterns mid sequence like direct jump on the A4.
I don’t know if the OT can also do this in song mode but possibly.
tonverk is one of the few elektrons to have it with AR & A4
oh yeah true, I forgot that I realized this too. maybe it didn’t stick with me as an elegant solution because the modulo-type conditional trigs become hard to plan and predict
actually the modulo-type conditional trigs work predictably on my DN2 when I gave this another try. you also don’t have to make the master pattern length 16 - it can be whatever, so you can do ‘direct jump’, for example, between a 32-step loop of pages 1+2 (A) → a 32-step loop of pages 3+4 (B) with a swift four-finger maneuver
and a master pattern length of 32 or higher.
pretty great that it behaves basically like direct jump. just a shame that the Octatrack has neither direct jump nor page loop
