Can you use wavetable WAV files with DT2 in anyway?
Yes, but most wavetables will require conversion to use. The DTII wants a wavetable with 64 waveforms/frames. Wavetales for serum and pigments are usually 256 frame I believe.
I have a short tutorial on loading wavetables here.
The DTII comes loaded with a handful of wavetables, but I have designed some specifically for the DTII as part of a sample pack here
Thanks @Eak. Do you know if these are useable: Analog Wavetable Pack
It doesn’t say how many waveforms/frames.
here you go (script for DT):
These wavetables will require some processing to get optimized for the DTII. They are 2048 samples long, When I make wavetables I make my wavetables 512 samples to avoid artifacts and to ensure everything loads up at the correct pitch.
Some might be usable, but will be pitched down 4x from what you expect and likely artifacts when modulating the “index”
Your pack looks awesome. Will def buy this later today
Can you link to instructions on how to use it? (Sorry total DT newb!)
So each of the single cycles within the full sample need to be reduced to a quarter of the length. Man that’s a big job. How would you even begin to do that?
Appreciate that. The .wav files can be loaded onto the DTII’s +drive (ROM storage) with the Elektron’s Transfer app. You can then load the samples to your project with the file browser.
-
Wavetables are all labeled WT, and can be set up with the grid machine using the method above.
-
Loops are are labeled with the tempo first and can be used effectively with Grid, Stretch, Repitch, and Werp machines, one shot mode works just fine too if you prefer.
-
The rest are one-shot samples, to be mangled to your heart’s content. Most (not all) tonal samples are pitched to C
If I didn’t cover something feel free to ask
Someone with programming skills might be able to make that happen by shortening each cycle, or grabbing 1 out of every 4 cycles. That might be what @7schlaf shared but I’m not sure . You can experiment with simple repitching or shortening but in my experience it led to artifacts and limited pitch range on the DTII.
I make my wavetables using a combination of PhasePlant and Node. Some were drawn in my hand, some were taken from recordings of synths and instruments. but I’ve used the wavetables in every piece of music I’ve made on the DTII since, I’m happy with the results.
Thanks so you use them in the grid machine and basically use them as single cycles and then you can use LFO or random grid locks to change between the waves?
Exactly, just make sure slice select isn’t set to keyboard mode. I will usually drift around with a sine/tri or use an exponential one shot for transient sounds.
Are the wavetables in your pack compatible with DT1?
I haven’t tried, but the DT1’s slice mode has a sort of zero-crossing detection that will likely pull each wavetable slightly out of tune.
Oh interesting. I thought they were working identically in the grid/slice mode.
@henryo I also created a wavetable pack for DTII, you can check this thread if this sparks your interest:
