Digitakt Pattern Chain mode

that workaround sadly doesn’t work if (for example) you have events that only happen the second time your pattern plays - the copied pattern only plays once, and then the first pattern starts from the beginning again… I hope the firmware at least fixes that!

although you can of course just set up a dummy pattern two 16ths long and use that…

I’m not getting what you are saying. Are you talking about using trig conditions in the first pattern and those not being present in the second pattern?

if you use a separate copy of pattern 1 then it plays twice from the beginning so any Conditional trigs set to play later than the first time don’t play. I think they do if you string the same number pattern together twice in the chain though.

Setting up a 2 trig loop to use as your “first” pattern works fine to work around though.

Conditional trigger settings works in pattern chains as I would expect. Same pattern directly repeated works as used when playing only one pattern. This is also the case from the last to the first position in the chain. If there is a different pattern in the chain, the pattern is started again. That makes totally sense to me.

I’ve found how to repeat the first pattern multiple times…

  1. Press [PTN], then press and hold (and keep holding) any [TRIG 1–16] that is not your first pattern.
  2. Press [PTN], press your first pattern’s trig key multiple times (here you’re still holding the trig key from step one).

Then the rest of the normal procedure applies.

Let me know how it goes on your side.

It’s sad that that is how you have to chain patterns together on a $700 drum machine.

Its not working

Just saw this to reply now, very late response.

Could you set the ch.length to twice the legnth of the first pattern so that conditionals will play before the pattern switches to the next in the chain.

yep. otherwise known as “the mode that shall not be mentioned”.
generally the answer to your question is “you’re not doing it right here’s a youtube video of someone doing something totally different to what you want to do and THEY didn’t need song mode so YOU’RE WRONG”
haha my work around was selling it you might wanna try it I don’t have any problems at all with it now

I wasn’t able to get this to work either. Do we have a confirmed way to make a chain where the first pattern is repeated several times?

Argle Bargle!

This definitely works.

ok, got it to work finally. I was holding down PTN the entire time.

Is there any way to view the chain after it’s created without losing it?

Still works with v1.10 on my side, so I’ll try write a better procedure…

  1. Press and hold [PTN].
  2. Press and hold any [TRIG 1–16] that is not your first pattern—continue holding throughout.
  3. Let go [PTN], then press and hold it again.
  4. Press your first pattern [TRIG 1–16] key twice or any number of repeat you need.

You should see the pattern number appear multiple time in the pattern name area.
