Digitakt OS 1.50

If there are clicks when using the slice machine can’t we just dial in a tiny bit of attack on the amp page?
I did this before the new update. Haven’t tried it with the slice machine yet.

Clicks occur mostly at the end, if a slice is cut by another trigger.

Theoretically no click at the beginning if it starts with a zero-crossing.

Yeah that makes sense.

I really like Felix’s videos for Thomann, they have a certain tone and energy that appeals to me. Enjoyed his description of the DT machines, he knows his stuff.

Just tested this update, a very good development of the machine. I was hesitating initially about Digitakt (long ago in 2017 ) and after purchase was thinking several times about selling it, because it did not fit my approach (a bit too simplistic regarding sound design). But new song mode, 2nd LFO update and finally new sampling options turned it into something much more serious. Just throw 2 LFOs to single-cycle loop or wavetable and put some weirdly time-stretched vocal loops, whoah, just instant ā€œCoilā€.

(Tested the new modes, maybe need to read the manual how to use it properly (who reads manuals? haha). They are good for new abstract/ā€œexperimentalā€ sounds, but what about more traditional, non-glitchy use? he most puzzling bit - lack of start offset parameter in Werp & Pitch… Slice modulation with LFO looks a bit unpredictable, but I was also struggling with it on Octa…)

(this video answers my questions, but having control about loop start and end would be good anyway)

I don’t think so, nor with OT.

Repitch have Start parameter.

I was playing at 3 AM and definitely missed it  Whoah and working in interesting way (combined with ā€œbarsā€ setting)

Amazing update, it’s just awesome that elektron keep adding features to the already amazing DT. I’ve not updated yet, because I’ve become overly reliant on Elk Herd @mzero  … Sorry if this has been already asked but I’ve been checking out some videos and I’m wondering how is the repitch different to adjusting the tune parameter to make the loop match tempo? Any additional benefits?

My impression is that Repitch just streamlines the process for you. True of much of this release (not to damn it, improved workflow is good!).

Particularly great because of getting that LFO back.

Yes, when tempo changes repitch stays on the beat (if it’s a loop or rhythmic sample)

Im a bit late to this topic, but damn Elektron: You nailed it! Again :+1: Starting with the External Mixer + New Filters-Update the Digitakt already got everything i ever wanted from it. And now? Pitch Shifting/Warping and Slicing too? I didnt even knew i need this - until now :relaxed:

Big shoutout to the Devs and many many thanks for this! :notes:

Would Flying Lotus still think Digitakt is like Beat Thang for 2017 after 1.50?

I hope rytm gets this update too…
Imagine velocity mod on slice number :o you cud have recordings of real drums, slice some chains of increasing velocity on the real drums, mod it with velocity!

Hey all, I haven’t done a huge amount of testing yet but is there no way to set a start point in Werp mode? Feels a bit odd being the only mode where if you want to start partway through a sample your only option is to go away and edit/rerecord it?

The Play parameter text in the manual (pg84) has been copied and pasted across all modes so it even refers to a start point parameter for Werp that unfortunately isn’t present: ā€œThe sample starts at the STRT position and will loop continuously between Loop Position and Lengthā€ (there’s also no ā€œloop positionā€ parameter in any mode other than One Shot but all sections still refer to it). Manual needs a spot of attention!

I’d almost be willing to sacrifice bit reduction in Werp mode for a start position and/or ā€œplay head positionā€ parameter (to be honest BR would sit nicely next to SRR on the second filter page now anyway). Werp seems to be the intended machine for granular effects but one of the most useful parts of granular synthesis is having fine control (plocked or with LFOs) over which grains are playing at any given moment. On a related note if we did get a ā€œplay head positionā€ param it would be a great opportunity to add a ā€œStopā€ option to the Play parameter so that you can hold on specific grains or move between them using only LFOs (or the DT’s sorely-needed MW/BC/etc macros :innocent:).

If I’ve missed something or if anyone knows any workarounds I’d love to hear it!

Not really :). It’s intended to time stretch / warp a loop to a specific length and keep it in time at whatever bpm. In a pretty limited and glitchy way of course which is quite fun.

For granular I’d simply use one shot machine where you can set start and length and use both lfo’s. This always was and still is
Limited of course but it kinda works.

True I’m probably just misinterpreting the intended use case with my own wishful thinking! Indeed you can get similar effects with small loops in One Shot but it would be great not to need to use up both LFOs for it, plus the beauty of Werp is that the grains are always tempo-locked giving the potential for much more rhythmic granular fun that would be tough to dial in with One Shot. A man can dream!

(also I’m not sure if it’s the case but if the grains in Werp auto-lock to zero crossings or use some kind of subtle fade in/out amp envelope it might be a bit more click-friendly than OS)
