You don’t need to…nothing to see here
Elektron team deserves big THANK YOU for keeping their products refined and improved.
So here it goes:
THANK YOU ELEKTRON. THANK YOU VERY MUCH INDEED.
This is a huge update, bravo @Elektron!
@DaveMech gotta just give you a little shout out, your ‘naturally repitching my voice’ notation in your YT video gave me a very good laugh. Literally scrolled back so I could see it again.
Just finished all Elektrons update vids…
Overall impression is, feels like Elek has upped their game. Even the Loopcloud thing was interesting. Looks like a super time saver. or eater, if you’re loop scrolling for days
Critique: the audio in the vids is outta sync with the vid. I can’t watch people’s vox outta time. Makes me super fidgety.
i did lots of facial anim, it jumps out at me when it’s off even the slightest

So what are the major remaining gaps between the OT?
- Streaming samples/audio (static machines)
- Per track effects (but OT effects are sounding pretty ropey these days)
- Stereo samples
- MIDI arpeggiator
What have I missed?
I’m sure it’s right around the corner
To me the biggest gap is still everything the OT can do live (while the sequencer is running). Sampling, resampling, looping, all that good stuff. You can record right into a track that already has a bunch of trigs, p-locks, LFOs etc. running and it all just works swimmingly.
The crossfader is also great. It’s fundamentally the same idea as the QPERF knob on the Analog devices but since it’s a bigass crossfader it’s really fun to play.
you can purge unused samples in the ram via the integration with loopcloud - at least there’s that workaround for now
Crossfader and scenes, live looping/sampling, mixing, editable slices. Those are the big ones that are keeping the OT on my desk.
I don’t think I can add too much to conversation just now but I do have to say that this update is as cool as a breakdancing polar bear. Wearing shades.
Got a whole bunch of ideas I want to try out but I’ll not have time to until the weekend, but hopefully then I’ll be back to pop some ideas into the tips and tricks thread…
Hmm, I think maybe I’m just too spoiled with being able to do a lot of it on the OT already
my post is definitely more targeted towards the people saying this update turned the DT into an OT replacement. Like I said, the extra utility is always welcome.
Three LFOs with LFO designer, slide trigs, all the insane stuff you can do with scenes, retrig knobs, proper slicing, buffer crap like pickup machines and multiple simultaneous recording lanes, master effects, better control over timestretch - don’t get me started on the effects though, imo the idea that they sound dicey now is a meme and the sound design utility of having them is indispensable, especially with how smoothly they modulate with scenes. I get the idea of presets sounding outdated, but effects? Really? And this is only the surface.
If Elektron want to push the DT a little further into the OT territory, they could also take advantage of the FILL button and separate the FILL/non-FILL from the other trig conditions. The FILL button would then feel more like a switch between two scenes.
Wow, very cool update!
I just tried out the following thing:
Connected an analog mono synth to the digitakt and recorded a perfect loop (armed threshold recording of length 64 steps) sequenced from one midi track.
Assinged the recording to two tracks each with the repitch machine assigned to it and voila, instant fugue machine -> changing the bar length is changing the pitch and everything is still in sync.
No I am playing around with the trigless trigs on the sequencer…Crazy stuff!
Have fun!
I think I found a bug.
Record for 128 steps, include notes with the same pitch (i had slight randomization on the timbre, note to note)
-> I had a grid of 8 notes tuned to C
Slice, divide to 8
Slice position to 4,
LFO set to slice select, random and depth of 3.5
Record melody using chromatic keys.
->For some reason, the melody is varying each playthrough. Even if the only thing changing is the slice via LFO (and each slice is tuned exactly the same).
Can others reproduce?
what app are you using on your iPad for sample chains?
I’m hoping that the next machine is a “Server” machine so that this forum doesn’t keep crashing.
Fair points
I’d forgotten a bunch of that!
The gap is wider than I remember
I stand by the effects being a load of bum, and the filter using an effect slot is
BUT this isn’t the time to drag it all up again
none in particular (I haven’t done it yet) but pretty much any drum machine with a sequencer could work (ie. spacing sounds evenly)
If working with samples, Koala should be useful for that as well
I tried and it doesn’t work for me! Getting gig ready to lol updated to soon
