Digitakt II Feature Requests

Nice technique! Adamski claims to have accidentally sent midi notes to a drum machine on Killer. Captain Pikant mentions it in this.

Okay? To my knowledge ‘round robin’ is random sample playback? Cycle round robin being maybe what you refer to?

Round robins: From the perspective of wanting eg a snare sound natural to a certain degree and not become repetitve thus boring…

Cycle range: ?

I don’t quite see a use for cycle round robins in my workflow? But i’m happy to explore new territory.

Anyhow good luck :metal:Cheers

I’ve always understood Round Robin as cycling, not random. Btw @garf just posted a cool lfo trick for round robin.

Yes! We just got it in 1.10. Thank you Elektron! And nicely implemented.

“Added an option in the PERSONALIZE menu that is called TRACK SELECT that lets you decide how to select tracks and how that action relates to triggering the sound of the track.”

Request for the Stretch Machine (and also Repitch):
Bars; in addition to the sample lengths of 1, 2, 4 and 8 bars, it would be a game changer to add option to also choose the lengths of 1 beat and 2 beats.

A long-time Akai S-series and Mpc user here (S3000XL, Mpc1000, Mpc One, Mpc 4000), few weeks in with the Digitakt 2. Still learning the Dt2 but I can already say that I fell in love with it. Honestly, for me, the ability to choose 1 beat and 2 beat lengths is probably the only thing that prevents the Dt2 from completely beating the s–t out these new software Mpc’s.

Being able to convert stereo sample to mono or set track type to mono

PATTERN P-LOCK
Where pattern could trigger other patterns at start or end with probability and random destination. It can lead to Markov chain kind of thing where end of pattern have weighted chance to go to X or Y pattern
Also change pattern playback direction or speed with conditional P-Lock

The Nerdseq has some kind of similar feature it’s so fun for going to more experimental or generative territories

nice to see these added from DNII in 1.10

i’d still love to see these added:

In last update, Elektron has added track layering for midi, so you can record chords now. Only for midi, and you need to turn it on in personalize menu

Loved the 1.10 update, still have some LFO features on my wishlist.

Loving the new update too.

Would like to see for the sampler:

  • Exact pattern lenghts extended to 256 and 512 steps, of course when set tempo allows for it not exceeding 66 seconds.
  • Double length mono sampling.
  • More manupulation of the recording before saving like: split by grid, zero point snap option, and if we can’t have slice mode machine, maybe ability for cutting it there and then saving all chops to separate samples as -1, -2, -3, … then assigning to consecutive empty tracks - or at least to the sample pool.
  • Another option would be that when sampling with patern length, to enable func + trim to snap to exact values of a step/beat. My biggest gripe is not being able to sample a loop twice and then splitting it exactly in half to have one version without end tail bleeding into it, and one with.
  • Pause sampling - pause the sampling, and continue within the same sample, possibly also with synced bpm. Would be great for making sample chains, or multisamples for the grid.

Wishes for the future updates:

  1. Proper grid/slicing machine with different modes, for example - manual slicing, slicing by transients, random slicing.
  2. Additional modes for Warp machine - now it seems to work better with rhythmic elements. It would be great to add some melodic mode for smoother melodic warping.
  3. Granular machine :innocent:
  4. SRC Waveform zoom in/zoom out
  5. Pattern swap (including swap between projects, maybe with help of Transfer?)
  6. More FX, Filters, Modulations (Additional Envelope follower, Envelope Designer, More destinations including Modwheel, Aftertouch, Keytracking), Ability to live record Modulation Setup main fader automation.
  7. Random Kits creation from Sample Pool or Preset Banks
  8. Sample similarity search and search by name
  9. More features for the sequencer behavior (move backwards, move random, notes randomization locked to the selected scale etc.)

I’ve sent a request for the midi chords feature from the digitone. If everyone does it they can’t ignore us all!

Hey dear Elektrons!

 the latest updates, thanks!

If i could add another feature begging to the list:

‘FOLLOW PAGE’
On playback and having set the REC + PLAY on a PTN, have the trigs seqence folkow the page (highlighting the trigs on each new page in sequence) So you can quickly adjust any stuff on the fly?

And have the page stick to the current when pressing stop + pressing maybe SHIFT + PLAY to have it continue on from the current page?

Not having to do it manually and skipping through pages while waiting for the sequence to catch up

Tack så mycket :metal: !!!

Also instant PTN switching would be nice (continueing playback from the next trig in sequence on the chosen destination PTN)

Cheers :metal:

Doesn’t holding Page button, and choosing part of sequence you wanna edit work for you?

No, not really. I like to listen, and immediately edit/make changes when i hear something - without having to go hunt for it

So a follow playhead auto page scrolling would be nice.
And after editing a continue play starting from the first trig on current page

I don’t own a digitakt 2 but I tried one recently that a friend owns. Its very cool no doubt. The lack of slicing is a huge let down. Though as I was reading through the comment I was thinking about what a slice machine might look like.

"Slice Machine"

The machine would select the default track preset or sample on Digi 2 (Slot on octa). The machine would allow you to intricately cut and slice samples and save slices as new samples.

Encoder A: Playhead Position/Sample Navigation:
Not sure what to call this (Level knob on octatrack Aed)
Encoder B: Start Position
Encoder C: Loop point
Encoder D: End Position
Encoder E: Enlarge waveform
Encoder F: Scroll (Left-Right)
Encoder G: Zoom
Encoder H: Playback Direction

Slice Machine would essentially be an adopted version of the OT version of the slice menu with some reduced options.

So how it would work is you set your first end point using Encoder D, after that you navigate the playhead outside of the sample zone and hit yes to create the new slice start point. When the play head is within a slice zone and you hit yes you would be greeted with a menu with these options

linear locks, random locks, Creating slice grid up to a 128 slices, Disable loop, Delete slice, Save Slice. This would save the currently selected slice as a new sample.

Func yes would play the sample from the playhead position. The trig would be used to playback the slices.

I’m not sure but as OT die hard, I don’t think that would really hurt the OT in any way. It can still do so many other things that the digi cant. Personally I think that where the OT’s strength really lies, in its highly customizable nature.

For example you would still have to use werp or whatever it was called for timestretch and the repitch with DT2 where as on OT timestretch can be turned on and off like a switch, with seperate rate and pitch controls. There less work in between certain workflow elements, so to say the machines accelerate in different paces. I don’t think a slice machine would be so bad to ask for. It would be super cool to cut records in detail. There a lot of advantages the OT has built under the hood that still IMO make it very powerful and relevant.

To end off my comment I’d love to hear folks thoughts on how they think a “Slice Machine” would work. Personally I feel that would really make the Dt2 the best multipurpose audio and music production device on the market with Overbridge integration. Does that make OT obsolete?

Cheers from Finlandia

*Edit: I am not sure if the “create slice grid” option is necessary here as they have the “Grid” machine.

There are three features I would like to see on internal mixer page:

  1. small real-time meters next to each channel
  2. setting volume levels to 0 or 100 on one or all tracks with a keyboard shortcut
  3. single-page mixer view option with condensed parameters for all 16 tracks

Yeah I use that function a lot. But when a track is “finished”, I would like the ability to “lock” the trigs within each track and sequence to prevent any accidental changes. I get I just reload the project/sequence, but it would be a nice QoL change.
