Digitakt II Feature Requests

@Elektron

To further iterate on my last silly request for an FM modulated iR FX slot:

The DT2 has 16 stereo machines available right?.. (16 tracks that can load/utilize different machines)

Now there is already the internal routing possibility…

Would it be possible to set this FMiR FX up as an additional FX machine and then route tracks internally to pass through?

Sort of sacrificing a channel to have additional FX? maybe limit them to 4 max to keep the CPU running smoothly? If that could be an issue?

FMiR :fire::fire::fire: FXmachine

Maybe it can be a play on words (like RTFM, or MF instead of FM?)

:metal::laughing: IR MF !

Cheers all

PS: also the option to route the INPUT would make for some beautiful internal patching!
Or maybe also be able to split it into two mono signals that can be sent to individual track destinations

:muscle:

This would be amazing! 4 fx tracks would make this an instant dub machine. Plus it would make it so much easier to mix entire tracks.

Didn’t know i wanted this but now i do!

My favorite eurorack sample player is the Squarp Rample, a simple 4 channel sample player with some novel features. The killer feature it has is that for each channel, it allows for loading a “pool” of up to 12 samples (they call them layers). These samples can be played on trig using several algorithms - round robin/sequential, random, CV, or MIDI velocity.

This method is really awesome because it allows you to create a set of multiple samples for a drum - for instance, imagine taking 12 different samples of the kick from your analog drum machine - each one is going to sound ever so slightly different. In performance, this means that every time the kick is triggered, it sounds slightly different (the first demo sample bank on the Rample demonstrates this so well that you would think it was an analog kick rather than samples).

This idea becomes even more useful when looking at a set of acoustic samples - for instance Taiko drums - creates variety in the strikes.

Further, their ideas of layers can also extend to playing tuned samples - using CV or MIDI Velocity, you can also select which sample layer you wish to play.

I am used to using a lot of modulation tricks on filters, the amplifier, sample start/end points to get variety, but this would be another useful tool in the bag. Ultimately, for one shot samples, I am someone who is overly sensitive to hearing the same exact sample played over and over and over, so the layer feature of the Rample gives me a way to combat this.

Apologies if there is already another way to do this on the DT2. Thank you!

Most of these (and more) can be done using sample chains, with lfos and velocity mod, slices and/or slots.
Up to 64x128x8 samples randomization. :pl:
Round robin is trickier, but possible.

Make track volume unaffected by exiting perform mode

Create a personalisation setting to have track volumes unaffected when exiting perform mode. This would be especially handy when using an external midi controller for track volumes.

All I want is a second compressor

Base and Width filter to have shelf mode, so instead of LPF and HPF, you have a high and low shelf.

Same would apply to DNII.

round robins is sample range selection + random wave
eg:

load 5 sample variations, set the sample slot to the middle (slot 3)

set the LFO to 5

There you go, ‘round robins’

You could even try making it velocity layered by eg

have a string of sample variations equally divided (8, 16, etc steps)
repeat tbis step, but in decreasing velocities (-20 per layer)

then load the middle ‘string o samples’ and insert the GRiD machine
set one lfo to randomize the grid slices
and set the multi controller to select the sample slot range (in theory*)

And you can adjust the pitch/tuning slightly as well to simulate the ‘harder’ hits, to make it sound like an acoustic snare for example?
(in theory*)

  • haven’t personally tried it out yet, but i reckon it could work?

Cheers :metal:

Won’t that result in random sample selection rather than it playing the same order of samples every time? I always understood round robin to mean that the sample selection goes in a loop, rather than random selection.

Yep. Random can’t work.
Workaround I found :
Round Robin LFO's and Sample Chaining - what's your workflow? - #8 by sezare56

Can you describe the concept behind how this works? I’m having trouble understanding it from that post.

Would be nice to change the Color of the Tracks. For bettet indiciate of larger Setups.

lmao still no proper slicing on 1.10

Has been discussed to no end, but from a business perspective, I don’t see anything with Digitakt in it’s name ever having proper slicing, unless Octatrack is discontinued AND they decide not to build any sort of replacement for it in the 1500-2000 price range. But then again, there is song mode now on the Digi boxes.

colour me surprised

New to this forum, and here i asked for an update as a feature request
So they listened
So far my track record is 100%
Maybe i can ask for a proper slicing and zero crossing?

not sure if anyone mentioned already, but it would be fun to be able to load random samples to the sample slots. this way you can discover new things from your drive.

I would do this manually when i am coming up with new idea. Use hihat pattern and just replace it with synth…
But random function would be cool. Maybe even for entire channel parameter settings

The 1.10 update just reminded me of a key feature that’s still missing - zoom into sample when setting loop/start/end points

Might be an idea to re-start the thread post 1.10. Suspect the content of this thread is much more things that have been done with 1.10, than feature people are still waiting for.
