Some of these have been mentioned (many times) before, but here’s a list of features I’d like to have on DT2:
Manual slicing and sample trimming on the device. Or at least having the option to set start and end of a sample when using the grid machine.
Global undo for some actions; it doesn’t have to be per function, e.g. when moving a knob. I know undo stacks can get complicated, but undo clearing/copying/pasting a track/pattern using a dedicated shortcut would be really helpful. Because if I cleared something by accident by pressing a wrong key combo, then I don’t know what to press to bring it back. It’s so frustraing when you start learning how to use this awesome machine and you manage to create something that you like, that you’re satisfied with, and then you accidentally erase it. Silly idea: func key double press displays an undo list. Or maybe make func+play undo the last clear operation, no matter what it affected. Or make it configurable in the settings.
As Funrom already wrote, linking multiple tracks into one polyphonic track. I know that chances of this feature becoming available on DT2 are probably zero, but I would pay extra for it.
This is already in the DT2. If you accidentally delete a track or pattern, just press the same key combo again to undo it. IE, if you press Track+Clear to clear a track, then realize you made a mistake, just press Track+Clear again to undo that action. Works for tracks, patterns, sound pages, etc.
But that’s the thing I’m still learning how to use it and it happened to me more than once that I, I don’t know, wanted to clear a track and I’d accidentally clear the preset or something else. And then I’m not sure what the actual combo I pressed, and I press the wrong combo to restore it and then it’s gone. I know this may sound dumb to an experienced user and I’m sure I’ll be making less and less mistakes the more I use it, but as a new user I find this way of handling undo’s really frustrating
Maybe keep the manual nearby then so you can reference it easily. If you accidentally erase something, just look in the manual so you can get it back before you move on. The copy/paste/erase key commands are very consistent across the device (and other elektron devices) in general, with a bit of use and practice you’ll get there.
I haven’t gone through the thread, so it may have been mentioned. But I would really like step record to have the option to play and record the default one shot of every track. Rather than it being track centric and then selecting the keyboard input. You know, Like you can in live record.
Shortcut for “change the sample in the slot used by this track”
When on the SRC page, requesting a direct shortcut to do the other wise two-step: twist encoder D, press FUNC+YES.
I do this all the time, so often I worry that in my haste, I’m going to twist encoder D too fast and finish up replacing the sample of the slot from the neighbouring track, instead of the sample of the slot for the current track as intended.
Button combo ‘Samples’ + ‘Yes’ looks like it might be available for this proposed direct route.
I’m not sure this easy to implement at all, where would all the MIDI parameters like channel, bank and program go? Why would you ever use a MIDI machine if they added this?
A MIDI track is a dedicated track that is able to send MIDI NOTES AND CC, but what I’m asking is just having the sample track to send on / off messages.
An audio track sending out midi note on/off imo is super useful for all kinds of things, ie linking two tracks, ie using the sample track to send midi to an fx for processing whether its hardware or software, ie create track choking thru external midi processing, connecting to the eurorack world etc etc. There are many other ideas, anyways just a thought.
BTW curious why do you think it is difficult to impliment
It’s not so much “it will be difficult” more “we on this forum have no way to know how easy or difficult it is”. Follow the link … the essential ideas are in the first few posts.
I really love my dt2 dn2 combo! I wrote my first track on it via song mode.
Since the Song Mode is a fully dedicated button . I really wish some features for it. For example sending/receiving mute states between elektron boxes.
Sending/receiving row numbers between elektron boxes
A lockable starting row in the song edit would be nice for a nicer workflow.
And I really would love like everybody is mentioning is manual slicing, auto zero-crossing , disabling normalize samples and polyphony.
The algorithm it uses is flawless. Also it said the update will make the screen a touchscreen! All physical buttons will be disabled as they’re no longer needed.
