Give names their own copy buffer.
I’ve read a lot of people getting pretty grumbly about some companies (TE, Torso) for releasing products and then not really paying much attention to the device after the initial launch. I think there are companies out there whose sales are effected negatively because this.
Other companies have a rep for releasing massive updates regularly/way down the line. … Microfreak for example.
They might have some of our money but they do run the risk of losing out on others’ if they are seen as a company that drags its’ feet with updates… especially rather basic things like mono sample … for example.
Personally , I’m really happy with the device but I don’t buy it that transparency is a bad thing. It definitely generates hype and ok , there might be unforeseen issues but I expect they have enough experience to know that they’ll be able to deliver on certain things …enough so that they could tentatively float some probable updates somewhere down the line.
note and velocity parameter to midi track lfo
Priority 1: sampling in mono please
Nice to have: polyphony machine
Precision : Mono sampling of IN L/R is possible (record MAIN, DUAL MONO mode).
Mono sampling of any source should be possible from recorder, with mono recording files.
I cancelled my 2nd batch Torso S-4 order because of so many issues and features still locked. I don’t like this method of releasing hardware so prematurely
But it records only right or left no?
Depending on INPUT settings you can record right, left, a mix of both, in mono (same signal on both channels).
If you record MAIN you record what you hear.
You can hear inputs in mono with DUAL MONO.
Less of an actual need (more a nice-to-have) for DT2 because you can re-sample back to one track.
Concrete example: I’ve considered adding a DN2 or Syntakt to my DT2 … but I always hesitate … maybe, just maybe, Tonverk is just around the corner with synth and samples in one box !
Seconded. There’s no obvious reason that page should be empty as it is presently.
Other improvements I’d like to see:
- Polyphony machine for MIDI and for samples as many have already said
- Option to choose sample bank when accepting “Assign sample to track?” popup after saving a new sample. Presently it defaults to Bank A and makes organization a lot more tedious
- MIDI retrigs
- Send Mod Wheel, Pitch Bend, and other expression data from a MIDI controller through MIDI Out. Currently, putting Digitakt between MIDI controllers and synths kills all expression capability. This is strange since Digitakt is capable of both receiving and sending this data. (Then re-enable most of the [SETUP] settings for MIDI machines and turn the Digitakt into a proper MIDI sequencer.)
- Remove the preset bank selection popup after a trig key is pressed to choose the bank. Currently, after selecting a bank, you must press [NO] to continue every time.
- Track renaming without having to create a preset
- Method for transposing every note trig in a track by semitones
- Make [FUNC] + Tune transpose sample by 12 semitones from the current tuning, instead of transposing to the nearest multiple of 12
This is possible on DN2 (last Setup setting).
Should arrive one day…
Pardon if I’m misunderstanding your second feature request, but FUNC+Y when saving a sample will allow you to assign it to a sample bank other than A using the 9-16 buttons.
Hey, so I just tested this in case it was a shadow feature I missed, but unfortunately it does not work.
FUNC+Y only lets you choose the sample bank when loading a sample from the +Drive (and when you do so, it does show FUNC+Y on the UI as a possible option).
When you save a newly recorded sample (right after confirming the name), Digitakt II offers to load it into one of the 16 tracks. In this instance there is no FUNC+Y option for making it load into a bank other than A.
Oh right, duh! I misunderstood and mixed processes up. Apologies if I got your hopes up.
Hey, I have a suggestion for a feature I think would be super neat for solving some of the problems I have with the DT2
Description
Add a track TRG option called Link Mode (LINK) to the “Retrig options” page that allows the current track to interact with its neighbour’s triggers, in one of a few different possible modes.
- Copy (CPY): triggers the current track when its left neighbour is triggered at the same velocity.
- Layer (LYR): like Copy, but first subtracts the current track’s velocity (from settings or lock trig).
- Choke (CHK): stops the current track when the left neighbour is triggered (or choked if in choke mode). Also chokes the left neighbour if the current track is triggered.
- Gate (GT): only allows the current track to be triggered so long as the neighbour is playing a trig. (If neighbour’s trig ends, any currently playing trig will release.)
- Pick-up (PCK): triggers the current track when the neighbour could not be triggered due to a failed PROB, FILL or COND check. If neighbour was triggered by a preset trig, the current track plays it instead.
- Steal (STL): triggers the current track when its left neighbour is triggered, instead of the neighbour, but only if PROB, FILL and COND conditions of the current track are met. (Honours preset trigs in the same way as Pick-Up.)
- Round Robin (RR): like Steal, but when the current track has been triggered successfully it will not steal the neighbour’s next trig.
- Poly (PLY): same as steal, but only steals if the neighbour is still playing when a trig is played (AMP envelope is at a non-zero level).
Allow track-level FILL and COND settings (which will be applied to trigs that are triggered via the Link Mode.)
Add a toggle for whether or not note value should be taken from neighbour’s trigger or from the current track.
Technical Note: Link Mode should be evaluated after the conditions of the trig on the left neighbour but before the left neighbour is played. Trigs triggered by link mode then have track-level conditions applied. Finally, Choke and Steal modes require a right-to-left evaluation pass before trigs are confirmed.
Extra: Add a SRC machine that copies the neighbour (to make polyphonic setups easier to manage.)
Rationale
This feature would be a remarkably simple way to fill many popular feature requests of the DT2 with a non-invasive change to the overall design. In addition to enabling choke, unison, round-robin, polyphony and velocity-sensitive sample layering, Link Mode has the potential to become a powerful creative tool when combined with other trig conditions and options. The design is deliberately very simple, but the number of possible combinations it creates is explosive, especially when you begin chain multiple tracks together.
One of the most powerful parts of the feature is the possibility of the polyphony from various steal modes, especially when combined with preset trigs and/or midi channels.
Anyway, long shot but I thought it was a cool idea I’d share.
Preset naming is already on the DN2, hopefully they backport it to the DT2 and that solves the problem ? Or do you see track naming as something different. ?
Right this second I just want a quick way to convert stereo samples to mono so I can pan them. If there is, I forgot. Been spending so much time on DN2 I may have. It’s driving me nuts right now though
There isn’t a way, and in fact there’s no sample editing/processing at all in the DT2, another of those vast feature gaps, making you want to use your OT instead
That’s wild. Could have sworn I heard reverb, delay, etc. but not sure now. The whole no pan shit pissed me off so bad I had to turn it off.
