Digitakt II and Midi learn

Hi everyone,

I’m not being able to use the midi learn functionality in my DT2 when connecting it to my Syntakt. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if this is indeed a bug.

I’ve already tried to reproduce without success the configurations that some people states as working here:

Here is an example of what have I tried:

DT2 midi configs (OS 1.03A):

  • Clock transport and prog set to send
  • Midi out set to auto
  • Send cc params checked
  • All channels off but track 11 to chan 11 and auto to chan 11
  • Midi machine in track 11 set to chan 11 ← Here tried to do the midi learn

ST midi config (OS 1.30B):

  • Clock transport and prog set to receive (is this ok?)
  • Midi out set to auto (also tried with trk)
  • Send cc params checked
  • All channels off but track 11 to chan 11 and auto to chan 11

Of course, connected DT2 Midi Out to ST Midi In and viceversa.

Can control the ST without any problem.

I gladly accept answers for dummy’s

Thanks!

I presume this thread didn’t have the answer in ?

I remember it was discussed and solved a while ago but if it’s not easy to find using the search function or explained in the manual a clear thread or 10 might help

Yeah, did not find the answer there. I’ve tried what they suggest.

Reading those threads it is not clear to me if there is a bug or not in the DT2 OS > 1.01A

In any case i’m not being able to use the midi learn :frowning:

I’d say the obvious way to use it would be

Eg
You want to midi learn on midi channel 2
Both digitakt and external device are on channel 2
Receive and send cc is on ( on digitakt )
Click midi learn while on the midi track setup for 2
Twist encoder on external device

The idea to use auto channel starts to get into the realm of ‘weird requirement for elektron device ‘

I do remember it being discussed as people were asking how to make it work and the answer was given

If it stopped working … that would be in the big bug thread.

It’s likely any device with midi learn has been done the same way , typically how elektron try to keep things consistent. Eg if it’s on digitone 2 , Syntakt

I found this , though it implies a different bug

Thanks your your reply @re5et

I’ve been trying again, following your ideas, with all the config combinations that came to mi mind. Not success tho

Will post int the big bug thread.

Do the synth tracks send midi cc from their internal machines ?

Have you tried sending midi cc from a midi channel into the ‘learning’ device.

And presumably midi cc send and receive is turned

Good luck .

Thanks for your time

I got it working

I just changed the auto channel to match the channel I want to learn on
Eg
My digitakt 2 track is a midi machine, channel is set to 15
The output device ( eg jd-08) is output on channel 15
Digitak 2 auto channel is changed to 15

Output channel is set to trk ch not auto

Already tried that configuration :frowning:
Tried again anyway without success. Either the ST is not sending cc’s or DT2 is not listening. Going to think how to test the first case with what I have.

Thanks

Make a midi channel that you know is sending midi cc on Syntakt

Ensure ‘encoder dest’ is int + ext …
output is midi

I might try hooking up Syntakt tomorrow.
