Digitakt : External battery / Power pack options?

holy shit just looking into this now. Here in NL it’s just 50 EUR to make a Battery Powered DT>
MyVolts cable
Powerbank 26800 MAH (Powerbank size doubled over the last years lol)

This powerbank outputs up to 3A which should be enough right?

Thinking of getting this somewhere this month and to try and build a case / lap stand with Powerbank. But thats harder than it seems I think.

I recommend birdcord pd cable since that can also power bigger machines

It looks like that powerbank does 5v 3A. Digitakt/digitone wants 12v 2A.

I would suggest looking at 12v powerbanks that provide 2A or more that have a dc output or get a powerbank with Power Delivery of 12v 2A and use a usb c to dc adapter. This way you dont have to worry about the step up converters (5v to 12v) provding the correct Amps as I dont think 5v to 12v converts can provide the 2A required by the DT/DN.

I use a XTPower and it provides the dc 12v / 1A required by DN.

Edit. Just realized DN requires 12V 1A not 2A.

I ordered this powerbank together with a Birdcord PD-to-12v cable for my Digitakt/OTmk2:

Also added a Birdcord USB-to-6v cable for use with the SP404 (I want to be able to still sample via USB-C when running on external power, hence the route via converter cable).

That looks like a nice powerbank. I might grab one as I use my XTPower to power my Force and need something for my DN.

Will order one of these as well since it will supply the needed 2A for DN.

Noob question: for the Digitakt I bought a XT-20000QC3-PA and it works great with included cable. Would I damage my SP 404 if I try powering it with it, as it delivers 12v but the SP expects 6v?

Yes, it would likely damge it since the SP404 expects 6V.

As I understand the voltage needs to match exactly and the amps supplied by the powerbank need to be equal or higher than required by the device.

Hi everyone,

I’m using this unit https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B089SQFCBW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

works pretty good for me. The best part is that it provides multiple outputs with different voltage which can be used simultaneously, so it can power multiple devices at once.
I’m talking about it in my recent video starting at 9:35 https://youtu.be/HO0ysUMGTQ4?t=576

I just acquired a battery powered DT in a trade - but truthfully I am a purist - I’d like to remove the battery.

I am not a pro, but how easy would this “fix” be. Im a sedentary musician :sob:

Is it as simple as un-plugging the battery and removing it?

You could do that yes.

Got it…cool. I don’t know jack about electronics so was worried if I messed with the power source something could go wrong. Thanks!

How about a trade with someone looking for exactly that?
I imagine that a lot of people without the ability to do it would like that!

I’m hoping to go mobile with my digitakt! I have one of these arriving in a few days:

Before I connect it to the digitakt, I plan on measuring it’s output + check orientation with my meter and compare to the digitakt PSU.

  1. Any thought on whether it’s a good/decent/crap purchase?
  2. If crap, would this be the right birdchord to get for a digitakt?

Would this work to power the digitakt?

I’ve ordered the birdcord 12v adapter. Does it matter what type of powerbank I get? Most recommended in this thread are not available in NL…

EDIT: * The rated output current of your portable USB battery should be 2.1A or higher.

This is what i use. Can plug it into a standard power bank and switch it to 12v

O wow that’s cheap, i bought the birdcord set which does the same. Cool so i’ll just get a big phone powerbank then, thanks!

Noticed that there’s powerbanks with 12v output as well for which you’d only need the usb to 12v converter.

Cheap and works perfectly.

You can really power anything with power banks actually. If I switch this thing to 9V and put a polarity inverter (Rockboard Power Ace Polarity Converter – Musikhaus Thomann) and then put a daisy chain on there afterwards (Rockboard Flat Daisy Chain Cable 6 A – Musikhaus Thomann) and power a bunch of pedals without problem. Or add some more size adapters and you can power volcas too.

In the end I like having the option to power almost everything with power banks so I can easily play outside.

I ordered myself the following a week ago:

From charging the battery to 100%, I’ve just hit 50%. I’ve spent approximately 4 hours sat in bed using it with the Syntakt.

That is pretty good going for an outlay of about £60
