Hi, I have Syntakt, Digiton 2 and Digitakt. Does it make sense to replace DT with DT2?
And
It only makes sense if you need more than 8 tracks, or you need stereo. If you don’t need either, stick with the OG.
It’s really a scenario of cost vs benefit. Resale prices on digitakt 1 are really poor right now. If you can get a great deal on a lightly used digitakt 2 and sell your digitakt 1 for let’s say half the cost of the digitakt 2 then I think there’s definitely some merit in considering the idea. If you can only sell your digitakt for a third of the price of a digitakt 2 then unless you’re in need of the upgrades that it offers, then I would likely stick with the original and that’s exactly what I’ve personally done.
I would like to upgrade at some point, but right now there is not enough benefit to support the cost, for me. I would encourage you to check out those other threads or some of the others which come up in the search bar, because there are several features which people have pointed out which do count as upgrades to the functionality of the device, however hardware-wise the upgrades are minimal and mainly pointed in the direction of storage capacity, however there is still a limit to what can be loaded into the project from the +drive.
How are you currently using your setup and is there a reason you might feel like you’re hitting a wall with what you have? It sounds pretty well rounded currently so I think that if you are not feeling the limitations in digitakt after upgrading (or purchasing) your digitone, then the limitations might not be relevant to you.
Thank you very much for your detailed answer! I am indeed very satisfied with the combination, but I still have a lot to learn, so I prefer to hold back a bit in how I work.
Yes. The differences are sufficient enough and it will have longer firmware support time.
