which sampler was used to put demo track together?

Oh I’ve done it with Ableton because that’s where I recorded the samples so it was easier. Haven’t had time to load them into the OT yet.

I made a video about making a rack with the DFAM, sampling and looping it for kick, hats, bassline and lead :

Poll: 2x DFAM or DFAM + Subharmonicon???

Totally depends what type of music you make but my vote would be to pair it with the SubH, its fun when you switch roles with them and go with a SubH percussion and bass/lead/melody with the DFAM

I had a Subharmonicon + DFAM and let them go… and always missed them. It seems like I got more from the DFAM but two of them seem redundant.

Who still loves their DFAM after owning for a few years?

I’ve had mine for about 18 months. I love it, with the usual caveats: no MIDI or reset is deeply frustrating. And since my Korg SQ-1 can no longer sync with MacOS after the last update, I don’t have a MIDI-CV interface for it, which has made it harder to use for more offbeat stuff.

But it’s still fun, fast, and hands-on in the best ways. When my non-music friends doodle around with my gear, they always gravitate towards the DFAM for a reason.

I put this in the Digitakt 2 beat thread but honestly the foundation is all DFAM. Definitely still like it. Always get blown away by how good it sounds. I wouldn’t mind getting rid of the Mother 32 and Subharmonicon but the DFAM would always stay. I think the DFAM with the Spectravox would be a killer combo.

Love my DFAM at just over 2 years. Got it with Mother 32 and slowly added the 0Coast, 0Ctrl, and MAVIS, and some diy guitar pedals. IMO the DFAM really opens up with a little complex modulation, as a machine to sample, or lending its syncable oscillators to add complexity to other voices.

If it were on its own with no other CV modulation options, I think I’d have gotten bored of it as folks sometimes report, even though the core sounds are great.

Had mine 18-24 months and still love and use it every time I switch my gear on. I use the DFAM Thing with it and that solves all sequencer limitations.

I’m almost about to buy one, but the Edge is so much cheaper. However, I get the feeling that maybe the real deal has a little bit of magic that is missing in the clone…

I feel like somewhere in the Edge thread someone mentioned that they do have slightly different sounds. You might check there to see peoples opinions cuz I know a few people have both. But I recall someone saying that they are very close and similar but not 100% the same, not that one is better or worse.

My reasoning for getting the DFAM over the edge is mostly superficial: he DFAM has a good build quality and looks very nice, and the Edge has a god awful color and looks cheap…

and of course:

the typical Behringer convo

I still find it disgusting that Behringer copies in production synths. Out of production and vintage stuff? Sure, tons of people do that especially in eurorack. I find it boring and would rather support products that are pushing things forward not stuck in the past but whatever, it doesn’t feel sleezy, just boring (to me).

But just making what’s already out there? Like, there’s tons of drum machines that are all unique and compete against each other for consumer purchase. There’s fewer drum synths on the market. Why not make their own unique drum synth rather than just literally clone an existing, readily available one?

That said, I do not judge people who buy their gear, this hobby is expensive so getting a cheap and good sounding synth is definitely a good value proposition. Conversely: as someone with too much gear, you really don’t need any of it to make good music on a computer and hardware is definitely a want, not need, when it comes to making music.

I just dont see Behringer adding anything to the world. And in the time it took them to clone and release the Edge someone could have made tons of tracks on the DFAM. I’d love for them to go back to what they were doing at the beginning with the Deepmind and Neutron where they were based on older designs but still very much unique synths.

I am currently building my whole setup around the dfam I think it is amazing you can get such a good flow going with it and it sounds brilliant

Grab a 4MS power module (I suggest the Row Power 35 if you’re going to use power hungry digital modules) and go to town w/whatever FX modules you fancy. Easy peasy.

So I picked up a DFAM last week and it’s great. Currently trying to figure out how to integrate with another box or 2. I have an 808 clone that I am using to send triggers to the dfam, but that is a large box just for sending triggers and using a couple of hat sounds, so I’d like to replace this.

Ideally I’d like something that sends triggers or a clock signal and also provides a couple of hi hat sounds (909 hats and rides). Any suggestions?

The ā€˜DFAM Thing’ has received some recent firmware updates, it can also now be used with the B Edge. New feature include swing/microtiming (which I’ve been previously able to do using TR8s tiggers & swing) . Also you can retrig each step up to 8 times. Although updating this thing is a bit of a PITA from what I remember…
