Controlling DT with M Audio UC33E

Hi Guys ,

i get my Digitakt this week very extiting, i have a M audio USC33E , can i connect it to the Digitakt and sent Midi CC,s? to the USC33E and use it as a controller for my DT?

Yes, you can do this, and this is very nice. I used to have this uc33 with my Digitakt.

can u explain how you set this up?

Depends what you want to control. Let us know what you want to achieve and we can guide you on how to set it up

Hi want to control my ableton the volume faders and marcos with the tracks i have from the digitakt in ableton.

Sorry didn’t get that. I thought you want to control your Digitakt directly with the UC33? Instead you want to control Ableton or your DT tracks in Ableton? Are you using Overbridge? Can you please explain a little more what you are after?

Depending on what you want to control (DT directly or Audio Tracks in Ableton), you’d have to setup your UC33e differently.

If you just want to control the track levels (track 1-8) of your Digitakt, you’d have to assign a unique midi channel to each track on the DT (eg Midi channels 1-8 for Tracks 1-8) and then set the faders on your UC33e to send CC95 (controls track volume on the DT) for each respective midi channel.

So for example:

If fader 1 on your UC33e should control the volume of track 1 on your DT and you’ve assigned midi channel 1 to your DT’s track 1, then you’d set up that first fader on your UC33e as follows:

Midi channel: 1, midi message: CC95

For the other faders you’d keep the midi message at CC95 for all of them and just change the midi channel of each fader to match the midi channel you’ve assigned to the track a fader is supposed to control.

EDIT: you’d apply the same logic to any other parameters of the DT you’d like to control. Use the midi channel setting to map a control on your UC33 to a specific track on the DT and then the Midi CC number that controls the parameter you want to control on that track (check the DT Manual’s for tables on which midi CCs control which prameters on the DT)

In Ableton, you’d handle all of this differently though.

Enter MiDi mapping mode in Ableton (mac applekey + m // PC alt+m (?)) and turn the knobs on the UC33? Sounds like it’s your first day in Ableton? :upside_down_face:

Thanks for your mail, Yes or the option within Ableton, The UC33 have a USB port, can i connect this port on the Digitakt without the use of a daw like Ableton or studio one? or with an adapter? So i can use DT directly? as midi Mixer? I, have work with A DAW set up and now without a daw , so this is all new for me, but iam very exciting.

Your UC33e also has Midi IN and Midi OUT connectors next to the USB connector (the two big round ones). All you need to do is get a midi cable (they are cheap and readily available) and connect your UC33e’s MIDI OUT to your Digitakt’s MIDI IN. Then set it up as described above and you can control your DT from your UC33e directly without a computer or a DAW between them.
