I’m perusing the manual at the moment but I’m sure I won’t catch every potential pitfall that would dissuade me or change my mind about the RYTM MKII. So, what are some limitations that aren’t really mentioned up-front in the marketing material? I remember when I first figured out, after owning it for a month, that the Octatrack MIDI sequencer couldn’t do simultaneous notes of different lengths on a given track. So, that kind of thing, but for the RYTM… little annoyances that you wish you knew when you first got the thing (that potentially might have prevented you from getting it!).
No Midi sequencing.
Certain engines are tied only to certain tracks(though resampling will provide a simple workaround to this)
No backup for samples, analog engines whilst perfectly useable might not satisfy all your analog percussion requirements.
What do you mean by “no backup for samples”?
Meaning that you can’t get samples off of the machine as there is no software that allows it, the mkI has been out for 4 years and still no backup of samples.
Wow. Is there any way to import samples, or do they all have to be recorded from the inputs?
Importing is supported by transfer app, but if say you make a loop and sample it in the rytm then you can’t get it from the rytm to a computer or another sampler for further editing or backing up.
Ah, ok. That’s not quite as bad from my perspective. I have an OT for the occasions where that might be something I want to do. Thanks for the info all the same.
No probs
Yeah. This one. I somehow missed this when I ordered my MKI a few years back. I also missed it on my AK. Oh well, no big deal but I’m still confused as to why/why not.
I believe it’s part of the Analog flow. It makes as much sense as it can because it’s outside of the realm of any fathomable expertise I might someday have.
I’m just glad I knew so little about it when I owned an A4 so as I didn’t fall into the modular spider web
If you have an Octatrack and imagine you won’t try to record loops internally on the Rytm I would recommend just getting a MKI. I have this combination and it’s fantastic. Plus you won’t need to worry about the quality control drama and lack of Overbridge.
Now that it appears that Elektron has sorted out the freeze issues on the AR2, I’d say jump on one. I had to return/exchange my first unit for a new one because of freezing issues, but Elektron released a recent update to address that. My new unit has been very stable so far, and I’m digging it.
If you do any kind if finger drumming ensure you’re ok with the pads.
I heard the MKII ones were bigger and allegedly more sensitive, but I know there’s no way to set the sensitivity in the unit which kind of sucks. Anyway, I ordered the MKII last night after everyone’s input and watching some videos. Looking forward to getting to know it.
Finger drumming on the mk2 is rad…until the entire machine locks up and you have to reboot it…
Looks like that’s just been remedied with the new Transfer app!
Indeed, hurrah!
