Compression,Distortion and Punch: Feed Main Out into External in

I was experimenting with the good old Moog Synth Trick of Main Out back into the external input.

Then add the external in to the fx. With some overdrive it really gives the sound some compression, drive and more punch.

Even feedback loops (careful!) with delay and reverb can render some great experimental sounds.

Yes, I made some tests before with the same idea, and I was surprised by the low feedback, even with input level set to max…

I also tested with an Analog Drive and a Geiger Counter, getting nasty…

Nice. Once the main out level is above 12 it’s starts to feedback. Delay and reverb feedback is nice too.

How do you monitor ?

Last time I used Octatrack in the loop so I could delay ST audio, and obtained a nice “analog distorted” delay with bandpass filter, à la Ohmboys Delay.

I wonder if plugging headphones with an y cable can be as good as main out…

I think headphone out should be fine. Maybe even better.
