Compatible USB HUB for Overbridge

Would be great to list the usb hubs that work with Overbridge.

I guess its still too early to really recommend anything for sure but let’s share our experiences.

-Proper test, i guess, should require 2 overbrigde units using full bandwidth. For now we can try the A4 using full bandwidth.

-It seems that you need MTT USB HUB.

Tested MTT HUB reported to be ok with Overbridge for now

Let me give you advice about USB-hub chipset: Genesys Logic GL3520
http://www.genesyslogic.com/en/product_view.php?show=26
It have MTT for USB 2.0, as well as for USB 1.1.

I have powered USB-hub, Transcend TS-HUB3K, which is built using this logic.
It works fine with connected Analog Four, Virus TI(which is also high-speed USB device), another USB 2.0 HUB, and USB 3.0 external HDD.
I also ordered another 4-port hub built on this chipset, Orico W6PH4, but this hub isn’t powered.
Maybe there is another hubs on GL3520, maybe more than 4-ports. If you find another USB 3.0 MTT hubs, keep us posted, please

^ specs on that one seem to tick the right boxes - good find - glad to see a USB3 hub which caters for this scenario

can i put a clear shout out for a note in the OP / title to the effect
please don’t just say your hub-x works ok
the reason being that the circumstances with which the hubs will work and won’t is very particular to the ‘test’
a test including two fully loaded OB devices and a higher than full-speed device (preferably a bandwidth hungry one) all working fine simultaneously
otherwise it’s possibly not proving the MTT compatibility clearly - unless of course it’s backed up with the kind of specs listed above from the manufacturer
.
i’m in the market for one, but anecdotal (unscientific) evidence is not much use - i’m holding out for an unpowered one if possible, hope the thread gets some good suggestions coming in :+1:

This hub and any other based on the VIA 812 chipset does NOT work as it doesn’t support MTT, only STT:

I’ve just bought this one, should arrive soon so I can test and it supports MTT, powered USB 2.0 on up to 10 ports

“Cascaded Terminus Technology hub chips support efficient data transfers for maximum performance across all devices with minimal power draw. Supports Multiple Transaction Translators for optimum performance when a combination of USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices are attached. Low power consumption is achieved with 0.18um technology and declocking/depowering of unused ports and parts of chip not currently in use.”

Note that their USB 3.0 version does NOT support MTT as it’s also based on the VIA 812 chipset.

AFAIK I can’t find any USB 3.0 hubs that support MTT yet, although it appears we might have a chipset to do it. Anyone found one?

Will let you know once I’ve tested the 10 port MTT pluggable one when it arrives.

Here’s another, 7 port USB 2.0 one that supposedly works too:

The specs on that chipset link above seemed very encouraging
The devices can be found unpowered too
Just searching ‘GL3520’ in your favourite store search should help
e.g.
Ebay < link
.
obviously untested
.
cheap enough if you look around to be worth a punt … maybe !

What is the advantage of an unpowered hub versus a powered one?

not having a psu plugged in 24:7 - otherwise it’s all disadvantages - especially wrt power - i.e. 0.5A max current
but that’s no issue for OB and my other peripherals to attach to hub
.
so none really, just prefer not to have wall-warts running when they’re not needed

yeah a list of working mtt hubs would be great!

These have been working perfectly for me.

Most of 4-7 port powered hubs may work without psu, so you can just buy powered hub and use it as unpowered.
For example, TS-HUB3K without psu can’t handle power hungry devices, such as HDDs or audio interfaces, but work fine with others.

Yes, as I say above: GL3520

Interesting, This hub uses the VIA812 chipset which does NOT support MTT. Mind telling us what you have it plugged into? USB 2.0 or 3.0 on Mac / PC, model and what devices you have plugged into the hub.

My USB hub based on the same chipset won’t play at all with OB, but works find in my USB 3.0 port of MacBook Pro

Only a single Transaction translator

I mean has anyone found a hub that uses this chipset?

Here’s the other Chipset that supports MTT

http://terminus-tech.com/English/products.html

I found at least two devices that uses GL3520:
Transcend TS-HUB3K, which is work perfectly for me, and Orico W6PH4, which is not yet arrived to me from store.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been having no problems running overbridge through this $40 Plugable hub.

I just (as in today) bought the Transcend TS-HUB 3K. I am sad to say that it doesn’t work as I expected:midi gets in and midi gets out, changes to parameters get visualized on screen . I see everything coming in on the Control Panel, but there is no NO AUDIO coming through the plugin.

If I plug the unit straight into the computer usb port it works fine.

Could it be that not every TS-HUB 3K has the same chip inside (the GL3520 is stated nowhere on their website).

Does anybody else have this problem?

Okay -off the back of the discussion above about the GL3520 chipset
.
I ordered this eboot unpowered 4port usb3 hub with GL5320 (according to manufacturer’s badly written blurb) - very cheap - worth the risk @ £6 !
.
taking on board my comments above, i have not stress tested it yet, but hooking it up with three peripherals (including one OB), it did play ball in all regards just as though it were directly connected - that is fairly encouraging given the patchy success discussed above with other pricey hubs
.
when possible, i’ll try to trip it up using the method discussed above and provide more feedback, quietly hopeful, and it didn’t break the bank & it will be useful regardless - so far so good !

edit dead link: it was this one …

Today I received Orico W6PH4, seems like it built using VIA chipset, not GL3520.
Don’t buy it.

I didn’t have this problem. You seen any revision numbers on stickers?
I hope there is only one revision with GL3520:

https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=ru&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fru.gecid.com%2Fstorag%2Ftranscend_ts-hub3k%2F&edit-text=

I asked it directly to Transcend. They replied very straightforward: “this is not an MTT hub.”

The search continues…
