Appreciate the interest. I don’t believe anything I have released currently showcases the specific things I mentioned, but I do know my next release is full of it, just not sure when that’ll be picked up. Perhaps if I find some time I’ll throw something together just to demonstrate.

It’s very kind of you to consider. If you have a social, PM or reply with your IG. I’d love to see when you post gigs.

I used to spend inordinate amounts of time with AUX events … now I achieve the same thing in 10 seconds with Waymaker

Interesting.

Can it also create complex midi ccs modulation behaviors like you can with the cirklon?

Can it modulate step length and velocity?

Can it modulate pattern length?

From what I’ve seen so far, it seems geared more toward generative sequencing, whereas I tend to prefer a more deterministic approach — but I might be mistaken.

@Sandison : arf, you know, one day, maybe already now, an ITB sequencer will do same or better things than Cirklon. No doubt about it.
In my case no matter, i don’t use computer, so Cirklon will be and stay a real fun and deep tool for me. I said fun, because now i find it fun, since at begening i found it a bit not so immediat and fun. I remenber saying that on sequencers i play but on Cirklon i think.

The more i use, the more i know, the more i love, the more my brain understand the way to do.

I recently sold my Torso t1 (i"m found of sequencers) wich i used to record in or play through the Cirklon. But this way of production leads me always to finalise in Cirklon. So the ideas that t1 bought was not enough to reach my goal : the main work was with Cirklon. So i begin in Cirklon with less materials, but more options.

Then i also try Pure data for a month or two and understood that this kind of prog is not my cup of tea. But it open my eyes to those big patches i can approach with Cirklon. Certainly not so wide in possibilities, but so elegant and more pleasant to use than a computer.

So, i know Cirklon will be soon or late an old and complex sequencer. But, now i begin to use it more efficiently, i now i will have a long travel with it, cause it’s soooo deep.
It has something of modular when using auxes and the relations between the tracks that i don’t find in many harware sequencers. Can construct so complex patches.
My fav procedure : playing often with global controles tempo and mute/unmute (ie with rythms, little change of tempo produce very living drum patterns). The more fun i found was with OT : slight changes of tempo produce time stretching on samples that brings subtuls sounds variations in the sounds and produce a loose groove.

Things like that : just a loop with 3 sounds on OT to illustrate my exemple

I’m also found of redirect auxes, grabs and repeat by lengh.

The accumulators are my last not so mastered part of auxes, but i dig🤓

Any MRCC x Cirklon users here? Mind if I ask:

  • How did you approach setting it up?
  • What instrument types do you have it connected to?
  • And did it add any additional friction for you, especially when it comes to playing into thru tracks?

I’ve got some machines I’d like to connect in the future, but never quite figured out the routing, so didn’t sweat it in the beginning.

I was not thinking about PPQ but about jitter. The 5000 does not measure up.

Good to know. Then dumpster diving on guitar center used section for a 4000 ain’t so bad

Great approach!

This is not accurate though: "You can’t redirect to a track that has already done its thing as things are evaluated left to right. "

I use ‘auxes to track n’ all the time on tracks to the right of the original track to be modded and it works fine. With randomize mask gate, for instance. If the OG had already ‘done its thing’ before having the mod added from the track to the right that would not work, but it definitely does…

I should have been more clear: what I mean is concerning the aux to aux relationship. Your example works because it’s the actual note event the later track is targeting, not the auxes of that track. Auxes are evaluated in order. You can’t have an aux that targets an earlier aux even on the same track, so logically it follows that you can’t have auxes function retroactively across tracks either. For example random mask aux B/C/D on track 2 to target track 1 simply won’t work, but you can do it from track 1 to 2. I learned this the long and painful way.

I have mine setup like this:

MRCC connected to all of my gear (7 synths and 5 fx units)

MRCC receives clock from ERM multiclock and outputs this clock to all instruments/fx and Cirklon

Cirklon receives clock from MRCC / ERM and has my master keyboard connected directly to an input via DIN midi. Same keyboard outputs midi via USB to DAW.

Cirklon has 3 midi outputs connected to MRCC inputs which then route directly to my instruments. No clock is transmitted by Cirklon.

DAW connected via USB to MRCC to also control instruments, but doesn’t send clock to anything either (other than the audio connection to the ERM).

This way- everything is closed clocked accurately by ERM, and I can sequence instruments from either the cirklon or the DAW.

If using the DAW to record Midi input from the master keyboard I just set the Cirklon to a track with an unassigned instrument.

It works great, haven’t had any issues and it flows really nicely without having to switch setups

I just accidentally found a random name generator, might be common knowledge, but I didn’t know about it.

When you are naming something (eg saving a pattern, renaming a song etc) PRESS the ‘SOLO SKIP’ button and a random name is generated.

Any Cirklon and MPC (2.0+) users of drum kits? Do you use this feature with P3 patterns? Or is it CK patterns all the way for you?

How do you go about your set up to trigger pads?

What’s good, everybody? I’ve been reluctant to deep dive on this, because I’ve always hit a snag. I’m at a fork in the road on this approach, so here goes:

I’m looking for a way to change presets from the Cirklon on a Digitone II. I downloaded the instrument definition from the Sequentix forum, and the expected behavior when using Track Value bank (cc 0) and Program (cc 32) is that I’d be able to scroll through sounds that are saved in the relative bank. A bit like when doing so with a synth instrument definition.

I’d expect that if I’m switching between songs, that have two different drum sounds for each, that the Cirklon would send the program change, and thereby change the sound preset.

Are any Cirklon users successful with these use cases? Would you go about it different, say, having patterns mapped to songs within the same Elektron project (e.g. titled something like “Live Set?”)

Does Elektron handle this differently, than say, the Alphabase or a synth?

Edit: Claude says it’s not possible, but you know how it goes. But made this recommendation:

The Only Workaround:

You would need to:

  1. Create a separate pattern for each sound combination you want
  2. Use Program Change to switch between these patterns
  3. Accept that you’re switching the entire pattern/kit, not just one track’s preset

Thanks for the replies.

So far as I know, Elektrons always treat program change messages as a way to select patterns, not instruments. And so far as I know, they ignore bank change CCs all together.

I don’t have a DN2, but this seems to be the case there as well. From its manual:

MIDI program change messages 0–127 will select pattern 1–128 (A01–H16) on the Digitone II. Additionally, MIDI CC and NRPN messages can be sent to control various aspects of the Digitone II. For more information, please see “APPENDIX C: MIDI” on page 112.

And when I look at the tables in APPENDIX C, I don’t see any entries for CCs 0 or 32.

This is, indeed, different from a synth which typically uses program change messages to change presets. But in my experience it’s fairly typical behavior for grooveboxes.

New video up. Just a quickie showing some Cirklon basics. Most Cirklon videos seem to get bogged down in the deep stuff and make it look boring. I wanted to do some quick ones. I want to show how immediate it can be.

has anyone got in touch with Colin or anyone from sequentix this year?

i have an issue with the dreaded battery holder and sent them a query but nothing for over 2 weeks now. there’s also another guy from the forum with similar issue saying he hasn’t received any reply since last year lol

Try the Sequentix forum, he’s on there regularly.

Love this. 95% of the time I use my Cirklon in this kind of basic way just sequencing stuff and playing around without really thinking about it. I know I’m using 1/10th of its power and I could use literally any other sequencer for this, but I’m happier when doing it with the Cirklon. Thanks for bringing attention (and production quality) to how much fun this can be!
