Chicago Nauts Unite!

My friend is getting married in Chicago this spring and was looking for a DJ to play Cantopop (his fiance is Chinese and he is an Asian film professor). If you know anyone like that please let me know! Gig would be paid of course.

Did anyone here make it to the headless horseman show? I was too knackered.

Last one!

So this is free and happening today/right now outside of the Empty Bottle. Usually a good time.

I’ve put together a live set I’m very pleased with, it wavers in between IDM, industrial, pop, anti-ambient, singer-songwriter. To me it’s a bit like OPN or Black Mass

(This is just a portion, and an old mix)

Does anyone have suggestions on appropriate venues to reach out to for booking?

I’ve seen local live electronics acts at The Empty Bottle, the California Clipper, and Sleeping Village. Not sure how hard it is to get your foot in the door at those places but it’s worth a shot.

Some smaller rooms that always have live music and might be easier to book are Cole’s Bar, Reed’s Local, aliveOne, and Cafe Mustache.

I can ask some of my friends from the music scene, but they’re all in rock/punk bands so not sure if they’ll have the best scoop on spots for live electronics.

Very much appreciated! I’ve hit up all these places, let’s see what they say

Solo I do an electronic thing primarily on the Digitakt, but with my band we have more of a punk vibe, vocals and guitar in addition to electronics. It would be rad if you could ask around, the bug to get on stage again has bit hard

I just chatted with one of my friends and he said if you’re doing punk leaning stuff Liar’s Club, Brickhouse and the Fallen Log are worth looking into. He also said avoid the Burlington, and Albion House. The former just doesn’t treat bands very well and the latter has had some sketchy stuff going on with one of the people who runs it.

If you DM me he said he’d be fine with me passing along some contact info and he can get you in touch with some of the people he knows who book shows. Your profile is set to private so I can’t be the one to initiate the DM.

Hey Chicagonauts, has anyone noticed the old firehouse for lease at 4835 n. Lipps in the Jefferson Park neighborhood near the 90? No residences nearby, just businesses and that blue line train station. Not a bad neighborhood either.

Just wish I had the loot to open a techno club. There’s no club scene near there but plenty of transportation options to get clubbers to show up. I know nothing about business. Just miss my clubbing days and see opportunity for the more entrepreneurial out there in case someone’s interested and unaware of it.

This is already started.

I also see that John Woodruff of Oddment Audio will be there on March 8th and 9th, with the Groc granular synth. ( thread ) They say they aren’t exhibiting but will have the synth ā€œon handā€ whatever that means.

Not sure if anyone would be interested, but I’m doing my first all vinyl DJ set next Wednesday the 27th from 6pm until about 9pm. It’s in a brewery/restaurant so more background music than dancefloor vibes. Gonna be spinning a mix of new wave/post punk and adjacent genres, some classics and some contemporary.

I try to keep a low profile online, so if you want the full details DM me and I’ll pass them along.

Last day of West Fest, great lineup, time to boogie.

I’m brand new to the city and make ambient, techno and house. Looking to meet more musicians from here – either just to hang or to jam. Any pointers? Electronic open mic nights are something I’m interested in too.
