Found some measurements for HD650 and Beyers Pro X. I own a 900 Pro X and the graph seems very accurate, at least to my ears.
Yeah, the DT900 Pro X looks like a good option to the Sennheiser HD650. Both look to be more than good enough for my purposes and cost about the same.
I can’t test then before buying so it’ll probably come down to which one of them is the best Black Friday deal.
Just to be clear, DT 900 Pro X is actually advertised as open or semi-open design. But imo they dont leak or let sound in so that’s a bit weird. 700 is the closed one.
Sennheiser HD650s are my open-back headphones of choice also.
Just a quick word on the Sony MDR-7506 - just got them, had a little smoke, now trying them out and my first impression is that I’m well impressed, can’t believe these cost only 99€ !
I’ve just been using them with a few VSTs so far - they don’t have the highest resolution but are still surprisingly detailed for that price class. What it reproduces is open, clear, well balanced and fun to listen to! At first impression I like them (much) better than my DT770s and my Hifiman Sundara Closed Backs.
This is very helpful! I’ll probably pick a pair up at some point when my NC Sonys break. But for Black Friday I’ll get a pair of open/semi-open instead.
What was your process there?
You shouldn’t require the Sonarworks XREF20 mic, right?
Right, no mic. Just the software because I was only interested in calibrating my headphones and not speakers. You choose your headphone model for their VERY extensive list and let it calibrate based on their models. Gives you a “flat” response curve based on the software. It’s not perfect but you can do an A/B and hear the difference.
I use Sonarworks and it made great improvements depending on the room. Also good for headphones on PC but their mobile app was very buggy and wanted permission to view my underwear.
This is what I’ve been using for a couple of years. Bought em in Japan where they were cheap. WIth some experience I can manage to mix on them and pass the car test as well.

I love how many headphone apps want to scan your ears. There is no sonic application for this, the only reason I can think of is biometrics.
Yeah, anyone tested them yet?
I’ll get a pair when my DT-990 Pro 80Ohms give their ghost up. Which should be around 2040 or so

quick little thought as I was randomly running through threads:
Ive been listening to music on the very same speakers that I make my music with for…at least 10 to 12 years. THAT is the key in making solid mixing decisions.
you need to know the speaker/headphone and what it translates to in other listening situations.
if youre using your headphones to mix but never find out what the music that is around sounds like on them, you will never have consistent mixing
as always it is more about knowing your gear than having expensive gear
There’s a lot of wisdom in this for sure.
wisdom is a big word, but in the very core and not taken TOO seriously, you can mix on anything you want as long as you know the “translation” to other situations well enough.
not that I would necessarily recommend producing music with trash monitoring, but you very well could!
Guys, has anyone tested these headphones? X1 – OLLO Audio There aren’t many reviews, but overall, they are very positive. Comes with Realphones-based plugin for additional correction and spatial processing, and 3 times cheaper than Audeze MM500
No but I 100% agree. It’s about getting really familiar with the gear you’re using rather than trying to find some “perfect” tool (headphones or otherwise).
I’m actually considering cheaping out and just getting a pair of Sony MDR-7506 because I’ll eventually familiarize myself with its characteristics anyway (and I still rely far more on my Genelecs for mixing than I will do with any headphones, open or closed). Would love to hear an update from @hausland. ![]()
