ChatGPT/AI slop: not here, please!

It was meant to highlight the impossibility of avoiding all implementations of AI, not as a serious suggestion.

Is that you, Jeff K?

I think the real maxim of computer science that they broke is “Don’t think that brute force is a long term scalable solution.” Some of the estimates that I have seen suggest ChatGPT will needs several orders of magnitude more data in order to be as “smart” as a first year college student. And considering that they’ve already hoovered up all of the free data in the internet, that’s a bit of a problem.

That said, the Deep Seek AI responding with “egg” to “give me a five letter word starting with E” is pretty funny. This is the future, folks!

Ah, sorry. I didn’t catch the sarcasm.

I’m going to stick to the rules of elektronauts, I hadn’t seen this request.

Thanks! Your illustration rather put me off the topic, which I’m sure was not your intention.

I have added AI slop (aka “filler content produced by AI tools that prioritize speed and quantity over substance and quality”) to the list of undesirable content.

It is something I wasn’t really aware of, but it seems it’s invading the internet.
Let’s refrain to follow this trend: AI generation is stealing from creative people + has huge environmental impacts.

Dedicated AI threads or meme thread may be ok, but in general topics, please avoid using AI-generated illustrations or text.

It’s a shame because, as a graphic designer / Musician, I would be genuinely interested in discussing this with others who feel affected for various reasons. To be honest, I’ve been closely following its evolution—it’s growing exponentially, and in my opinion, as with all major inventions (nuclear power, etc.), change will be inevitable.

Most whistleblowers are former tech executives, yet instead of fostering a public debate, governments are investing in it… The public has rarely risen up against technological changes, even when they have profoundly impacted our way of life. Every shift is complex because it inevitably brings both advantages and drawbacks. And we can’t test it over the long term and then, depending on the damage, simply go back…

I could name examples of so-called great inventions or so-called positive evolutions that turned out to be anything but.

i also understand that’s here it’s elektron and extended music topics mainly. Not way of life even though in the lounge section it’s tempting…

But no way I make a thread without examples so. dead.
I don’t want to be the most flagged member haha

Don’t feel affected. I just vastly prefer real discussion with all that comes with it versus people resorting to gathering around the campfire for low quality image generation and “:+1:

Nothing intelligent about it. I’d rather ascribe it to what feels like a lone brain cell banging around aimlessly like a ball on a KAOSS Pad. If someone strives for that “experience” they can go anywhere else IMO.

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with discussing AI and its ramifications. It’s a little off-topic for a synth board (increasingly less so), but there are threads for movies, books, and games, so why not? The concept itself would not seem to be prohibited by Elektronaut’s “no AI” policy.

But if you can’t think of ways to characterize the output of AI in your own words without using it to generate examples, that’s the part that would get you flagged. And frankly, lists of example AI content doesn’t sound like an interesting conversation to me. Maybe work on that part?

This means AI-generated images are of course tolerated in dedicated threads (see bellow).
Meme discussions, I’d prefer to avoid this as much as we can, but I think it makes sense to tolerate them…
In regular threads, though, they’ll get removed without warning.

Thanks for that.
Bookmarked.

There might be some other discussions more relevant for you.
Use the search on the forum to find them.

However, keep in mind that AI-generation discussions tend to become political, at which point the discourse can go in every direction… Which can get the discussion closed.
