Chase Bliss effects pedals

I’m afraid, on non-ambient but rhythmic sounds like drums, synth melodies it will be as difficult as on Mood MK2 to get desired results.

In comparison Lossy and Gen Loss MK2 can be used nearly on anything.

I preordered one. Can’t wait.

Is Mood MK2 really that hard to wrangle? I’ve been thinking it would be a fun addition to my pedal collection, more like a Microcosm with fine grain controls. I see Microcosm as a pedal you can include in non ambient compositions, even if you have to carefully dial in the settings for the element (drum/synth/guitar). Is Mood not as immediately useable?

Ive had a MOOD MKII for a couple of months and have borrowed a MICROCOSM from a buddy for a month as well.

A couple things to consider > on the Mood you can’t hard sync to Elektrons without a midi box. The cheapest way i found was the chase midi box in comparison to the MICROCOSMS built in normal midi ports.

The MOOD has a unique workflow where you kinda have to engage with the pedal to get the best results IMO. I liked the MICROCOSM as more of a real time synced effect once i setup it correctly.

While the Mood kinda wants you to play some stuff then loop it using the right side toggle then play around with the wet side to create unique soundscape. Ive been using it mainly in the early sound design stages to create my own samplefood and weird droney paul stretch textures. I also use for extra delay/reverb spices. I am still waiting to get the midi box so i havent quite synced the pedal to my elektrons yet.

To answer your main question, you could definitely use it subtly with all the instruments you mentioned, but I find its almost like an instrument on its own where you have to commit headspace to it as opposed to set and forget unless your just mainly using the wet side effects.

I like have a SP 404 (SKIPBACK) ahead of it to capture the magic which i find to be really helpful.

I really liked the textures i was making on the The MICROCOSM too and found it to be pretty effortless.

It works with a cable wired up as per their advice. I literally chopped a midi cable in half, soldered a TRRS to each end and voila!

Weird, I was going to buy a passive cable from Disaster Area Designs (they basically sell what you are referring to) and before buying i hit up their support to make sure it works.

They told me that their passive cords don’t work with elektron’s and recommended the most economical approach would be to buy the Chase Bliss midi box.

I also hit up Perfect Circuit about a few of their cords and they mentioned the same thing.

Oh, I might be thinking about the Habit, it’s been a while but I’ve defintiely had midi fun with the cable I’ve made and a digitakt. IIRC it was pretty awkward to actually get working and you need to dig into the elektron midi sync settings quite far.

Wow, you weren’t kidding. Literally like 5 seconds of cool glitchy beat.

This thing is cool, but when I buy weird hardware like this I end up not actually using it, even as a sample maker, because the level of control I tend to want either doesn’t exist or is too finnicky to use.

I built the Midi / TRS cables and it works fine on my Mood MkII and Elektron boxes

I like Beads, I may like Onwards. I’d like a different design on it tho

Decided I will give this a try. I‘ve long been looking for a pedal that I could use for live mangling vocals and I can see this one working. The demo was underwhelming, but the walkthrough and manual show a lot of options.

I think the Onward sounds quite cool.

Not so sure about the design though … the grid is a nice idea, but it doesn’t look like a designer had her hands on that. Besides, I don’t like the big lettering (but that’s probably a matter of taste). Instant buy otherwise.

At least for me. It starts with painful syncing its recording buffer e.g. with DT.

Ony via a Midihub (MIDI processor) I was able to start recording at the start point of Mood’s buffer after pressing start on the DT. And then Mood’s buffer is relatively small if you use higher sampling rates.

I imagine it would be much easier if you just play some notes on the guitar and overdub continously if necessary.

And IMO the sound mangling UI is not very intuitive and requires a lot of RTFM, endurance and dedication to get useful results.

OK, maybe I’m a little bit too dumb for it. :upside_down_face:

EDIT: No, I’ll will keep and use it when I am in the right mood.

is knobs still with them?

Nope, he left a while ago and is back to running his own channel.

wow, did he talk about it online… I remember seeing an awkward moment in a video when he first joined up where they were talking about not having an actual contract and chuckling nervously about it

I think they didn’t really speak about it but it didn’t seem like there were any bad vibes, guess he just preferred to make his own thing :man_shrugging:. We still get knobs videos for all pedals and CBA has also improved their own videos and manuals.

I’ve made it a whole day and not pressed the button!! I feel like a new man. I’ve gone cold turkey and come out the other side £500 (or what ever price it is) better off

I have just bought a new bass though, and that cost me more by a fair amount.

Save your money for rebuying the Warped Vinyl.
