Hello. I’m new here. Also please excuse any weird english grammer. I need your help.
Ill give you a little background. I am a studio (acoustic) guitarist/singer with minimal knowlegde of elecontric music making. Lately I have been working with someone in the studio that inspired me to start incorparating electronic music in my own work. In the last 6 months I have played around with my PC but I loose all inspiration and motivation when i’m in front of a computer screen. So I started looking at what device I should save up for. And that brings me here. I’m going to purchase a device next week. In the last few months I have got down a good basic knowledge of the world of electronics and what each device can do. Also I don’t do live performing and do not plan to in the near future.
What I want to acomplish: I want to create full songs with my guitar and voice, backed by a whole arrangment of sounds (bass / synth and so on) created on a single device + experimental sounds made from samples (and my guitar + other instruments) on the same device. Most of the sounds I will be making outside of the device will be recorded with a mic. (zoom H5)
Because of multiple reasons (mostly keeping the wife happy) I want to have one device, or maybe two small devices to achieve all this. It seems to me that the Octatrack would be a good choice. I am willing to go through the extensive learning proces (I’m an eager learner with everything music related ) but also scared about it because I have so little prior knowledge. I do love the idea that this machine could grow with me without needing to replace it after a year of two. Also another thing that keeps me indecisive is the Digitakt. I think it could suffice if i record to pc with it but it obviously is a lot less advanced on the composing/sound design front.
Would love some insight to make a final decision coming week. What can you tell me to help me make a choice.
