Boycott Spotify

Don’t forget to follow me.

I’m not so sure that listeners aren’t affected by this stuff.

Like, if I was still a comic book reader and comics publishers went from paying artists basically pennies (what they pay now) to literally pennies, and then started using bad AI art and writing to fill the gaps, I’d be affected because the books would get crappier, and it’d be harder to find good stuff by the artists and writers I like. Especially if those creators can’t afford to work in comics anymore.

It makes me think of the town I used to live in, where the 2 smaller microbreweries got bought out by the biggest microbrewery in the area. It didn’t notice until they fired the old brewmasters and started messing with the recipes to make them cheaper and simpler. Pretty soon there was less variety in the beer options and most of it wasn’t as good as before.

So I think customers really are affected by all this, because our choices and the quality of what we can get is being watered down like all that crappy beer.

I know a lot of this “Boycott Spotify!” stuff comes off as anticapitalist posturing, but if anything I think it’s companies like Spotify that are screwing up capitalism, because they’re manipulating their products in ways that mess up the whole market.

So I know nothing about Spotify other than it’s a popular streaming service. When I said Spotifys actions, I meant what everyone was saying above about paying artists! No clue on the AI stuff!

Like I said, I don’t use the service. I just happen to know a lot of people that do.

Why not stop listening to crappy, racist, sexist, homophobic, x-phobic, degrading women music and podcasts first.

I’m phobic of the direction this thread is going in. I need an adult!

I hope you meant women-degrading music, and not music made by women that are degrading, racist, homophobic, sexist, x-phobic (what does this one even mean?) :joy:

When you mention podcast, you mean joe rogan, right? How much does Spotify pay him yearly, again?

Having an exclusive deal with rogan is on it’s own enough reason for me to not pay for Spotify :joy:

Oh good thing you mention it cause there’s nothing HE hates more than anyone saying or even thinking anything negative about capitalism

I’m not sure why you constantly attack me!

I don’t know. All I know is I only listen and follow Electronic musicians and their derivatives. So, my share goes on them.

Not that I really care but any thread with a high volume of flags within a short period of time not only gets automatically shut down by the forum software but also makes the mods extra grumpy so arguing about ideas is all well and good but it’s easier to argue if the thread isn’t locked.

Just saying. Love everyone equally.

Just saying though.

Yeah, this shit needs to stop now

BTW, I take this personally! Crappy happens to be the genre I make the most!

I really don’t see how this comment adds to the conversation.

I disagree with @Kegeratorz on a bunch of stuff but I think he’s a good guy and I respect his opinions.

If he and I agreed on all this stuff, what would we have to talk about?

You should know they pay him a shit ton of money to spread misinformation about serious things. And also you should know that the money you pay does not only go to the things you listen to. Most of it goes to other artists and Rogan and the company itself.

Did you really think the money you spent on your monthly subscription went to your fav artists? Maybe a few pennies.

After recent allegations, Spotify was seen in public wearing pants again.

I would say that anyone who has a phone (or is in fast fashion) is guilty of sufferings and murders of a lot of people who get those precious metals. Back on topic. Unsubscribed from Spotify and I’m selling my phone.

I like to think so. Am I a little too naive?

I know a lot of people like this. Who’s to blame?

This is basically the premise of The Good Place, innit?

I think the way the math works is that the contract JR signed is so massive that a chunk of everyone’s $ goes to him.

Sort of like how I almost never watch sports but 90% of my TV subs pay for sports programming because its licensing blows everything else out of the water.
