Why isn‘t he just doing it. And why isn‘t anyone like Deadmauß not just building a system for creators that actually works? I mean he is into technology, he got money.
And why don‘t people boycott spotify? It‘s not the only streamer out there.
I suppose they’re too big to fail, I recall many artists outrage and pulling their music but eventually they’re just too big to fail at this point. boycotting/artists removing their work will do absolutely nothing, only if studios will boycott it - then it might bring them down.
he is actually one of the early investors in Tidal. along with jay-z, daft punk, beyonce and a few more.
edit: i’d consider switching to Tidal if it wasn’t owned by that other twitter idiot these days. they pay more to artists and have higher quality audio though.
It feels like they streched it too much and in the last month more and more people become really pissed. Also the fact that under 1000 plays you got nothing paid as a small Artist any longer.
Why isn‘t there a really good streamer where Artist get paid fair and can manage their stuff by themselfs? Like a social media page and all of the uploaded content.
well because 99.9% people who listen to music don’t give a fuck, all they want is listen to what they want easily which spotify provides for low cost, also people want to listen to artists who are no longer alive, so how can they upload their thing anywhere and get paid?
studios own majority of music and they want numbers they don’t want to think about the artists.
I boycott Spotify. Tidal and Apple Music actually sound better.
Spotify kept pushing podcasts and audiobooks and non music nonsense. And hiked their price. Their app is no better than the others.
So I left.
And I would never scam myself and pay Distrokid to add my music to the pool of slop that is uploaded by the second.
I don’t use Twitter- who is the Twitter idiot? I don’t know about tidal
I count on Spotify to weed out all the no-name bedroom techno producers so I can easily find my popular music.
Just re-upped my yearly subscription, thanks for the reminder!
Spotiwhat?
The streaming model is awful regardless but I recommend trying Qobuz since their royalties are multiples of what Spotify pay artists and were the highest of the streaming services last I checked.
Some stuff isn’t on there (though some stuff from people actually boycotting Spotify somewhat balances that) but you do get lossless etc. so swings and roundabouts on that front.
I was always uncomfortable giving Spotify any money but when it came out about them funding military tech a few years ago, that was the final straw for me.
Define “fair” when it comes to streaming.
I left Spotify behind when they made that huge deal with Joe Rogan. Pretty much just listen to MP3s via the cloud and Evermusic app (worked at several record stores over the years so have a pretty big collection of CDs, but also rip them from time to time thanks to the local library)… or I explore Bandcamp now and then. YouTube provides me with live sets a la KEXP, Tiny Desk, etc sometimes as well.
i never really used spotify and likely never will
well, one time a friend put me in his family subscribtion:
i remember having a hard time creating a music library. and when i wanted to listen to something it was suddenly gone. i lost interest pretty fast. i guess its not for me
i discover and listen to new music through online research and i dont need spotify radio for that
and when i like something i buy it on vinyl/cassette/bandcamp
i like digging on youtube or bandcamp much more than what the spotify interface has to offer
tldr: spotify is crap, but good when lazy
well, I have at least one use case where spotify is not crap, my SO is geriatric physical therapist, she does workshops for older folk trying to get them to move, she uses spotify to create playlists to play along when they are doing all of these “workouts”, they fucking love her for creating these playlists of old music that they’ve forgotten about, it makes them happy every single day.
she spends hours creating playlists at least couple for every week, not lazy at all I’d say, and I don’t see how other then streaming she can compile that much old music that would make these people happy they got out of bed that morning.
the company is terrible for living artists and the management is shit, but the app is convenient and doing it’s thing, I wish it was fair more toward artists, maybe someday management will change and they will be better…
Quick note that Tidal is great and I’ve not missed Spotify since switching years ago:
- pays 10% of your subscription to the artists you listen to most
- pays the most royalties per stream
- has high res streaming if that sort of thing matters to you
- has nice little things like links to allmusic for credits
- seems like it’s actually run for music by people who like music, not assholes who just want to earn enough money to buy
Manchester UnitedArsenal Football Club.
Always think of this from one of my heroes:
well… it’s majority-owned by square, which belongs to jack dorsey who founded twitter and is a weirdo bitcoin-cult billionaire now…
Ah! I got my clubs confused. Daniel Ek was trying to buy Arsenal. I hear every tech billionnaire wants one now.
i am not saying manchester united is owned by the guy, i am saying tidal is
I totally agree with the title of this thread.
Always remember:
I enjoyed Benn Jordan’s insight/personal experience on this.
But also
Now this new insulting comment by Elk.
⇒ Boycott Spotify
You can also stream to Serato from Tidal for much less than the other supported streamers.
