Bought a Nintendo Switch

I missed the sale but I’m adding Unisghted to play soon.

I would have skipped the game just because of the cover art, but this looks crazy fun.

Picked up a ToTK Switch OLED yesterday. I’m gonna experience this the best way I can.

My kids went “Wha … that’s not for us?” And I go “Damn right it isn’t.”

I picked up ‘What remains of Edith Finch’ today and I really like it, couple of hours in.

Didn’t know any walking sims so glad I discovered this one. Any other recommendations in this genre?

Beware y’all: it’s leaked.

I want no part of leaks! Please, let there be one place in the world left with fun surprises.

The ending got spoiled for me.

“The Master Sword” is actually a sled that he had when he was a kid

Specifically ones that have Switch ports:
–Firewatch
–Gone Home
–Abzu

Genre-adjacent picks:
–Night in the Woods (mechanically breezy adventure game, great town and cast of characters to explore)
–Return of the Obra Dinn (puzzle game with walking sim-type spaces)

Regarding Zelda, in the end Nintendo are boss at gameplay, story isn’t really their strong point. Although Zelda really is their darling when it comes to story. Breath of the Wild’s story was pretty one-tracked, I think this is mainly because Ganon didn’t actually feature as a villain with anything to say, but just a sort of presence in the distance and as a sparse red goop about the place. There’s definitely scope for Tears to offer something a bit more complex.

I caught this little clip of Matt Stone and Trey Parker offering their writing advice to some college kids. And it was basically the narrative equivalent of an if / then / else statement. Rather than just, ‘and then this happens’, ‘and then this happens’ - creating entanglement and opposing forces, juxtaposition, surprise - that’s actually what makes up a story, not just just one thing leading on from the next.

I hope they ditch the Memories concept. Or, at least, it plays second fiddle. It’d be nice for everything to be in the present rather than something from 100 years ago. Hoping they figured that one out. And with these Zonai tribes and other things getting in the mix, it could be cool.

But you can’t help feel tho that while in some ways Zelda is mature, it’s started to present itself as a Saturday morning cartoon type vibe. Ganondorf is basically like, I dunno, Megatron. And that’s cool, I guess. Games are for kids mostly, at least Nintendo stuff generally is. But I feel like it could be tweaked slightly, hold its own and be cross generationally relevant, and not paper thin plots/devices that you really only need to be 7yo. I can think of something like Tron Uprising, which imo was awesome, it had wicked plot and pacing, was a killer cartoon, badass Lance Henrikson as a boss. I feel like if Nintendo are going to punch into voice acted territory they should really double down on it, and not just have it be this cut scene cringe fluff.

These are just whimsical criticisms I suppose, nothing I’m overly serious about. But in terms of the re-used Hyrule, yeah, I think it will be fine. I think it will all be completely different and the entire mystery of the thing will be finding out what’s different, the terrain will hardly matter, everywhere you go will be something new.

I’ve drank and watched the trailer multiple times. I get the impression that every scene featuring that princess will be a memory-esque cut scene and won’t actually happen to Zelda himself.

There are time travel theories floating about, but the most direct line is that: it isn’t time travel, it’s a memory.

Which, don’t get me wrong, FINDING the memories was the greatest gameplaying experience in BotW, but yeah, an actual ongoing plot would be preferable

Muting this thread until I’ve played TOTK.

Just want to enjoy it, as I did with BOTW. No expectations, no spoilers, just exploring.

Please!! Even in the comments section on a Nintendo news site that is strictly no-leaks there are absolute dickheads about. Might have had one thing ruined for me already. Nowhere is safe.

Reiterating here, but by now I’ve sunk in the ballpark of 60h in Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and it might just be one of the very few games I actually finish. It also made me revisit Kingdoms, which is a completely different experience, but still benefits a great deal from understanding the mechanics of the second game.

Link KILLS Ganondorf!!

I’ve copped a couple eyeballs full. Glances, though, nothing that constitutes anything more than what a trailer might show, or anything that’s totally that’s spoiled it for me. Seriously, this game is going to be fricking epic.

Also anyone else notice all Zeldatubers have gone quiet? Wonder what they’re up to :smirk:
