Bi-weekly record-diving sampling extravaganza | 08 | The Bar-Kays - Whitehouseorgy

@looms Sometimes time away from electronics is good, and I can empathize with you for your time away, if you’re going to keep making funky tracks like this! Nice groove, and not sure if you tried doing so, but your track gave off some heavy p-funk vibes :beers:

@BLKrbbt haha man post as much as your mind/body/soul allows! You’re sharing the gift of creation :muscle:

I second this!

Alright… Imma bounce it off the 404… its my beautiful disaster… I wanted to just throw everything at the track and make a cohesive mess.

I get what you mean, but man that was an intense tribal vibe! :muscle:

I put in some work to get everything not sounding like trash… the first 8 bars are kinda reserved, then as I was sequencing, I said fuck it, and just put in a bunch of Belgian jump up bass.

I 've been making things kinda conservative for all these battles lately, and even the summer jam I did for this is actually nice, but it felt good to punk out for a bit.

p.s. I feel spent.

Here’s what I did, it’s quite simple but not too bad.
I spent rather less time making the beat than I did endlessly tweaking and tuning drum hits cos I couldn’t get em sounding right.

Your chops are delicious on this one! Nice, smooth beat @Yabba :beers:

Thanks mate… Let me get my talk box! I wasn’t going for a p-funk vibe honestly, I just wanted to throw something together but it does have that vibe doesn’t it! which has given me some ideas if I have the time/inclination to try em

Those piano hits. Are they different chops or repitched from the same sample.

I notice that if I try to repitch a piano stab, you can hear the tempo change and it stands out too much.

That’s why if I repitch, it the same value across all samples, to keep the tempo consistent.

Nice beat, of course.

Had some time this morning for a quick Ableton sketch - started with an idea, it got weird  Enjoy!

Cheers mate, it’s from the sample.
it’s the second chord from the sample re pitched, I put a tiny bit of lfo on it to give each of the three notes played a slightly different feel, in a effort to try and make it sound less like a played sample chord

Oh, so it’s all from the same chord and the whole chord is repitched. Am I understanding correctly?

Thanks for helping me understand.

No worries buddy, yeah it’s from just one of the chords, first note Is played at minus 7 semitones from the original pitch, second note is minus 5 then the last note is its original pitch.

Thank you!

Haha I see what you mean, Nate.
That was an enjoyable listen.

Also, this is what happens when we British people have to access our area restricted samples via porn sites

Head nodder! I like this a lot. It’s like it’s about to fall apart and can’t predict the pattern but it keeps it funky and interesting :fire:

Dude! If you haven’t, have a play with the pitch algorithms on your 404 as I’m pretty sure at least one of them keeps the length of the sample the same but you can play it melodically. Might not sound perfect but pretty neat!

We’ve all been there haha Thanks mate!

Thanks!! I love brokenbeat and super sloppy stuff but there can be a fine line between slop and out of time so I’m glad you dug it

Good idea!

The pitch always sounds great, but the artifacting on the time stretch is pretty noticeable if the samples are clean, unless that’s what your going for, but if I do that, I flavor it with the bit crusher to add those crunchy harmonics.
