Behringer EDGE : semi-modular percussion synth

I think this sounds pretty fantastic, in a slightly unruly modular way. Very different from a DFAM in general tone but IMO that’s a plus.

Is there a swing feature in the sequencer does anyone know ? I guess the manual might be available now
EDIT : Doesn’t look like it has swing. Shame. The crave swing was decent

In it’s favor, it sounds different and it has midi and big knobs. One reason I bailed on the DFAM was I hated tweaking the tiny pitch and velocity knobs. Give me big knobs, or give me death! Pretty sure that’s a famous quote.

Where is the Syncussion!?!?!
Supposedly it was ready for production over a year ago.

So they added midi, scale, and pink/white selectable noise source. Hmm, not bad. Might pick one up to compliment and perhaps provide midi communication to my two Dfams.

I like big knobs and I cannot lie,
You other ‘Nauts can’t deny
When you see some gear with a lotta faders
And the pots have got that radius
You get GAS

You realize you can add “bigger” knobs to just about any potentiometer right?

I had Crave. It’s quality was superb, actually. It was very sturdy and well machined, pots felt nice, jacks were very firm. And that orange color was actually much nicer in person. Exceeded my expectations in this area. I had bad experiences in the past with Behringer, but this one was very pleasant.

Does the midi receive start/ stop messages for the sequencer or only clock?

Behringer regularly finds improvements made to a product and adds them to their version. You can get at least some of that added to your Moog DFAM using the DFAM Thing from Serendipity Synthesizers.

the midi in is such a huge improvement when it comes to being able to easily and precisely sample a loop or chain with a dt (especially with the 1.5 update)

i already have too much gear for drums/percussion but for $199 i will definitely be picking one of these up as soon as they’re actually available

4 posts were merged into an existing topic: Behringer Spice (SubH-clone)

Is there any indication of what can be done via Midi? Is it just a matter of triggering a note and determining the pitch? Are any parameters midi controllable?

I feel like most of their others synth’s midi implementation was pretty minimal, so I’m not holding my breath…

I’m curious what this could do with an Analog Four though.

Also wondering if you can restart the sequencer from the beginning with MIDI and/or CV.
Kinda important if you want to get freqey with retriggering/odd pattern lengths.

On the DFAM you need something like an Sonoclast RFD to do this; I don’t see any reset input on the patch points so it’s probably the same on the Edge.

Yeah, it appears so. I can simulate that with the Toraiz Squid, which will be a great partner for this.

Hopefully Behringer was smart enough to implement it via MIDI, like 99% of other MIDI-enabled sequencers have done. The MIDI “start” message is distinct from a MIDI “continue” message. Here’s to hoping.

This is tempting. But as a DFAM owner, I don’t know if I can feel inspired, etc., with that 80s Teen Vogue purple color. Hopefully some overlays in the future.
