Astonishing insects and other beautiful small beings

Looks like an elephant hawk moth caterpillar.

Actually its more likely to be a privet hawk moth, I think the elephant is brown.

such amazingly designed creatures…nothing is comparable for the originality and its unexplainable beauty.

Yeah this is it. The buggers managed to eat an entire jasmine plant in one night, then hissed at me when I plucked them off.

Found this stunning soul in my kitchen last night, couldn’t believe my luck.

Such a majestic cape! And such a stunning furry hat! Truly a magnificent being.

Working outside definitely has its perks for stumbling across fun bugs… but also snakes which I’m deathly afraid of, so it’s a tricky balance haha

Where and when did you find these guys?

At the end of May, I captured hours of audio of Eastern Tent Caterpillars throwing their poop down from the treetops in the Catskills of NY.

Not the same species (I think these are Ermine Moth Caterpillars) but they sure are a force!

A couple of little beings I passed on a walk.
I say “little” because those spiders do get much bigger!

These caterpillars are wonderful creatures. Unfortunately, I have to catch them every day because they eat my tomato plants. The ones I don’t find become nocturnal butterflies.

A couple of years ago, there was an invasion of ladybugs. I caught the bee in a nearby meadow.

May I ask where you live? Wish I was so close to stag beetles.

I live in eastern Switzerland. Our house is next to a forest with many oak trees, which are necessary for the reproduction of stag beetles. I have always wanted to see these beetles and am glad that I happened to move to a place where they fly around. I hope, you’ll find them somewhere too.
