Arturia keystep pro

Hi there,
I started using Keystep Pro in my DAW setup, in conjunction with Ableton Live.

It’s meant to be used as 4x MIDI interfaces and as a “top layer” of improvisation sequencer over Ableton sequencing (in the box). It’s quite fun and powerful, but I’m wondering a few things :

  • is there a quick way to erase every sequences of a Project ? I’d like to clear every steps when I load a new Ableton liveset, so doing it remotely would be even better.
  • is there a way to change projects remotely ?
  • More generally, is there any documentation to control it with MIDI (except for the obvious note inputs, synchro, etc). I’m thinking of sysex messages. I’m dreaming, for instance, of sending a sequence via sysex.

Thanks !

Sorry missed this.

Final compromise was 100 Euros refund after I was offered less initially (to send it back would cost same amount as purchase resulting in me losing all my money).

Arturia themselves intervened and offered me two free plugins of my choice. I only took them up on just the one as for whatever reason I felt my issue was more with Musicstore. In the end the display was not scratched and was actually a sticker that was near impossible to take off - certainly fooled me. In a nutshell I have a Keystep Pro with flawed paintwork on the sides with a few silicon beads still inside which I guess will eventually come out with more work!

Learnt a lesson - don’t deal with Music Store again! Their comms was shocking more then the issue itself. I think I sent the pictures to 4 different customer service reps over the crazy amount of weeks.

Also, I can’t seem to use the Keystep Pro to output MIDI to channels that are not used by its tracks.
For instance if I have :
Track 1 : channel 1
Track 2 : channel 2
Track 3 : channel 3
Track 4 : channel 4

Then I thought I could still use the Keystep Pro as a simple MIDI interface to output MIDI from the DAW to channel 5. It doesn’t seem to be possible, is it ?

I dont think that’s possible…can only use the 4 channels, no midi thru on other channels.

Missed opportunity….
I’ll write them a few requests.

MIDI out 2 can be used as a THRU, so it works !

Now I wish I could use the CV outs as independant MIDI to CV converters…

Anyone with a keystep pro care to chime in,

I’m looking to do solo jams with bi-timbral or greater synths, like lay down one sequence or arp and then play leads or other parts over top live.

Wondering if I can just accomplish this with a Prophet Rev2 or if I would be better served with a Keystep Pro. Just hoping somebody has experience with one or both devices and laying down 2 or more sequences at a time. Thanks

I was able to use my buddy’s tg-33 and KSP together. I turned it on and each channel was controlling one of the 4 timbres. It was the best experience I’ve ever had with that synth. Some really great sounds on that one (great drums).

I’m considering the KSP for sequencing and playing 2-3 hardware + iPad. Nothing serious, just jamming a bit. I don’t mind small keys.

What the competition looks like? I think this is the piece I need or there is other option to consider.

It’s great, if you want/need keys to play.

If you don’t, I’d take a look at the Oxi One and/or Hapax as more powerful alternatives.

Thanks,
I actually have the Oxi One but it’s too complex for my need and I would prefer with keys.
I need to see if it make sense to switch indeed

Question to you guys… are you satisfied with your KSP? How’s the built quality, encoders, strips and buttons (in use after all that time as well)?

My old small Keystep is dying, some keys won’t work anymore…

All other midi keyboards I’ve looked are a way to bulky, like Novation, Akai and NI

So far, both my keystep pro and keystep 37 have worked fine.

The original keystep is built for shit. Mine also had keys stop working, plus the usual broken usb jack. The pro and 37 have held up better so far, tho I haven’t used the pro heavily. fwiw

I use my friend’s often and it feels as it did new a few years ago. If you don’t need the sequencers, the KS37 is also great. One day I’ll better utilize the strum thing it can do. I enjoyed the original KS and got a lot of mileage out of it. I still have it, but the lowest C key can’t be trusted 100%. All 3 options seem to be great value for their money.

I’ve had the KSP a few times…really like it. If it had 2 more tracks and full size keys, perfect!

Keystep pro plus needs to become a thing.

Keystep PRO+ MKII

I have the Keystep pro, i like it, quite flexible and simple to use, the fact that you are not limited to recording on a grid is awesome. It is limited in some ways, sequencer and song mode is not the best, especially due to the small screen.

At one point I was running two together to sequence eight machines. Before I learned about other sequencers.

It might be a newbie question, but it’s driving me crazy. I have my KSP connected to the SH01A, and it works perfectly when the sequencer is off. However, as soon as I turn the sequencer on and record some notes, nothing comes out when I play it back. Yes, I’ve switched between ARP to SEQ modes, and the MIDI channels are set correctly. As I mentioned, it works well when it’s not in sequencing mode. Anyone?

A Eurorack accessory for the KSP.

KeyBuss from MinMax Modular

This is a quick, convenient way to connect your KSP into a Eurorack setup. The plugs are duplicated on the back of the connection blocks, with added current drivers so you can continue to use the plugs on the back of your KSP as well as having multiple splits on the Eurorack outputs. The connection to the Eurorack interface uses standard HDMI cables, and can be run over a long cable if you want. The MIDI can also be split 3 ways.

Looking at the picture, are those activity LEDs on the interface ?

Has extra features so the price is higher, but sounds like the sort of thing for those that are really looking for this sort of thing.
