8 input/8 output (depending on which one you go for) ADAT expander :ok_hand:t2:

Definitely getting the x8 IN to go with my Motu Ultralite mk5

What are the advantages to these over the much more affordable Behringer ADA8200, except the form factor?

This looks like a perfect companion for the Push 3, too

I would expect the ADC(s?) to be better, but from my understanding the Behringer works just fine for a lot of folks.

Slightly OT Behringer opinions

Personally never going to touch Behringer gear however, so for me that’s where that discussion is at

From the comments on the above video review, I was made aware of the recently released Ferrofish Pulse8ae which does the job of both the AudioFuse devices in one box (8 in, 8 out) for roughly the same price (€600).

Might be worth checking out for anyone in the market for something like this. (I just ordered one.)

to be fair, the reviewers’ criticism regarding the Audiofuse issue has been fixed via a firmware update. However, applying this FW update requires unscrewing the device case open, and plugging in a USB cable to a port inside, then sending the update via a computer. Arturia rep claimed this would not void your warranty, but better to make sure via their customer support first just to confirm

Ferrofish 8x8 is a great new entry to the market as well. Very aggressive pricing, and I’ve heard much praise for their units.

Opening up the device to do a FW update in 2025 is absolutely wild, why doesn’t it have a normally accessible usb port?

Arturia never thought users would be required to use the USB port. It was used for internal QC/unit tests only. These are relatively simple devices after all, with very little features

Ah, ok. That makes more sense then.

The Pulse 8AE does indeed look really powerful.

I wonder what they have in store for the “DSP stick” expansion. It would be great if there was the option for network audio options like MADI, AVB, or DANTE.

I have been using the AudioFuse IN pretty much since it came out and it’s been a really great unit all around. I just push the on button and don’t think about it any.

It’s that simplicity that I like about it.
Hanging it off an Ultralite with only that power button to think about is a wonderful thing and it’s converters are so close to the Ultralite’s audio quality that I can’t tell any kind of difference (so I don’t think about where to add a given instrument between the two).

I plan on getting a second one to hang off my other interface (828), eliminating a ‘standard’ expander (OctoPre) with In and Out in favor of this ‘only-in’ solution (and also because I find the OctoPre noisy in comparison to the 828, and unreliable when sync’d
 and large
and also with features I don’t need like XLR on every channel).

I’m impressed with what they’ve managed to squeeze into that Ultralite-sized Ferrofish, no doubt. But give me two AudioFuse INs please (which is, I imagine, why Arturia came up with these).

I use the AudioFuse X8 IN with my UAD Apollo X4.

Great little unit. Connected it, turned it on, selected 48Khz, switched Apollo clock source to ADAT, done. Instant, no hassle at all, and now it just sits in my setup and works away in the background for hours every day.

Pretty much the easiest bit of kit I’ve set up in recent years.

Converters sound pretty good too, I wasn’t expecting stellar quality for the money but they sound very clean to my ears.

Ive used the x8in ans x8out with fhe Push 3 for about 6 months now. Absolutely perfect. No issues whatsoever.

You havent updated the firmware on either unit?

OTOH, if everythings working perfect, why bother
“never mess with a working system” and all that

I haven’t. It didn’t even occur to me. They’re not really something I interact with
At all. But now you’ve flagged that I might!

Er. Actually. You literally have to unscrew the front of the unit to expose an internal USB port :joy: a project for another day!
